It's been a long time since I've lurked this thread so I don't know if this has been covered already, but does anyone know what happened to Jake from the Cinema Snobs website? I noticed I haven't seen him on any of the Midnight Screenings reviews.

Wasn't he the sexual harrassment guy?

I'm going to put my 2 cents in on a couple of things people have said over the last 10 pages or so:

I never understood why any of these people opted out of employment, because when the age of the YouTube critic was in it's prime it was obvious that it wasn't a permanent thing (it's just the nature of the internet, nothing is permanent) and I find it hard to believe that they couldn't balance a job and their hobby (yes, hobby) that wasn't released on a daily basis asides from entertainers like Jontron, who work with sponsorships to guarantee a more profitable outcome with his content. It was a huge gamble all of them took, and they're all paying for it now as their fans move on and it stops being a sustainable venture.

As far as Nostalgia Critic reviewing films that are still in theaters, it was something he stated he wanted to start doing when he ultimately opted to return to the character: he didn't want to be stuck reviewing just old, bad films forever, our boy wanted to spread his wings and fly a bit as well. You could also argue that the films he's been reviewing have been banking on nostalgia as well, which is (supposed to be) his domain. That's not to say his reviews are good though, seeing as he's still confusing "review" with "detailed synopsis" and cramming more skits into it than ever.

The biggest problem these "critics" face (and a harsh truth) is that the average viewer will only invest him/herself in a handful of content-producers: the largely-painful crossovers were a desperate attempt to introduce the larger fan bases to some lesser-known staffers to get them some more traffic, which is why SO MANY OF THEM were paired up with the Nostalgia Critic. Can't really fault them for trying to grow those fan bases, but...it was tired, formulaic, and did more harm than good. It's also why he produces so much content under the NC title than doing an off-shoot series, he's scrambling to try continuing to sustain his income in the aftermath of an empire that's collapsed on itself.

The irony behind the Nostalgia Critic's increasingly arrogant behavior and ill-feelings towards the rejection of Demo-Reel is the fact that he expressed a humbled "I've learned my lesson and I understand" sentiment at first, and he'd make the occasional jab at his past failings to acknowledge that it was a necessary learning experience. Cramming Demo Reel into his own brand has (possibly unintentionally) become his solution to a failed project though, and the success he's had since returning to the brand that first got him out there is clouding the fact that he's still making the same mistake.

it makes me ask why he didn't just change the name from Nostalgia Critic. Is it simply brand appeal? Is he just too lazy to come up with a new name for the character? Or is it because the fans would try to kill him if he changed it again?

Brand appeal.

I can totally understand it. Lots of people hate their jobs and being able to get out of having a job and actually get paid loads of money just for doing shit they were doing anyway is an incredibly appealing concept. It takes a certain blind spot not to realize this is going to be temporary (look at DSP as the ultimate example), but when you have such an appealing concept in front of you and it's actually currently paying your bills, it's easy to understand why someone would give it a try.

Not having an exit strategy would be really stupid, but people are dumb.

So, apparently Doug has (or had) stalkers. Anybody have any sources on who would be that much of a sperg that they would stalk him of all people?

My question is why it's in a page labelled "Stalker With A Crush". One would think that's just straight up "Stalker". Did those threats include "because I love you"?

It's probably there since the alleged threats include rape were being sent to his house.

Edit: on YouTube I found a video from 2011 that has Doug at a con telling the crowd a story about a “creepy” fan (who was probably autistic), but I sincerely doubt that guy in involed with the stalker thing.

Also making fun of a fan that clearly isn't all there, what a two faced douche.
