Tumblr!Toriel's fuckin pissed.

Pretty late but Rick technically has been confirmed pansexual, so that part they actually got right.

Also, here's Dragon Age 2 fanart. It's supposed to be Isabela and Merrill, who look like this:

But now they're this:

The worst part - Isabela is already very dark in canon. But nah, she can't just be a PoC, she's gotta be fat! And the palest character in the game's gotta be brown.
The art style is so nice too, if they'd just fixed the obvious pandering it'd be fine.

The art isn't the problem this time, but why change a pale character so dark?

Do these people actually create anything, or they just paint everything over with diversity-colours? I mean some of these guys seem to have so much talent, but instead of doing something with that, like creating new and interesting stories with as many diverse characters as they like, they just re-color stuff that already exists.

That's what the most frustrating thing about these people; some of the art isn't terrible but I don't like how they can't try making original stuff instead of making fanart and adding unnecessary shit. I know original art doesn't always get notes, but a part of art is taking risks.

Edit: this actually made me curious, so I decided to search tumblr for a One Piece character who's face is a big part of her design. It's not a hard face to draw ether. I didn't even have to search long before I found her drawn looking like that fat pink Steven Universe character.
They drew that second image to be like that one scene of Rose Quartz talking into the camera, didn't they. What was the point of drawing the character like that when they can just draw Steven Universe stuff?

It's One Piece edition in today's SJW fanart!

Dillinger is a fucking fighting fish kin tranny thing, you'd think that would be enough for tumblr's standards. But no, they had to make him black just to give it their own little personal touch.

I kinda think that deliberately going out of your way to make the characters look nothing like they do in the source material is a bit disrespectful to the creators. I mean, it's like they're not even actually fans of the stuff, you know?

Because to Tumblr, one white, male, or straight character is one to many and means that the whole series, whatever it is, is evil racist/misogynistic/hetero/cis propaganda. Were they to be caught liking anything with such a character they would immediately become Tumblr's enemy of the week. Therefore, the only way they can like anything is if all of the characters are changed to conform to Tumblr's standards for "diversity".

And as for anything new and original, what would be the point? They know their fellow sjw would invariably find something wrong with it and denounce the whole thing along with them. SocJus isn't interested in anything new or creative. It's about conformity through fear.

Considering that one piece already is much more diverse in character models and skin colours than most animes I don't understand why they can't just accept the characters as is

Agreed. Although if I were to nitpick, about three quarters of the female characters have very similar body types to one another. Huge boobs, tiny waists, and long legs. Even if you're not coming from a feminist or SJW perspective but rather an art perspective, I can see why that might that might be annoying. Of course, there's a big difference between drawing a character with a somewhat smaller chest in canon and....that.

Yeah I think some of the "redesigned" girls in that fanart would've looked okay if the artist paid more attention to the fashion sense of the characters instead of slapping them in whatever is cool to wear on tumblr right now. But most of them just look more like OCs than the One Piece characters they're supposed to be.

That's the one thing that bugs me, too and it's exactly why I can't stand a majority of fan fiction AUs (like coffee shop/high school/college/et al. stories): Why even bother going so far removed from the source material -to the point where the characters are all In Name Only- when you could just make it flat-out original? Isn't it rewarding enough to create something from scratch for people to enjoy?

Like Kawaii said, I get that original art doesn't get much attention (unless you're that godly of an artist and/or make original stuff your focus right out the gate) and I can see why people would piggyback off of established shit. But if they work their asses off hard enough to make people care about these characters they created, rather than cribbing off and mutilating a known quantity (like Homestuck, Undertale, OPM, the MCU) beyond recognition for "diversity points" or whatever, then it'll have more meaning to everyone.

They aren't original enough to create a story entirely from scratch. These people like some parts of the source material, and then change up the rest to fit their needs. It's too much work for them to create their own thing, so they always end up piggybacking off of someone else's ideas.

At least they're not wearing "Down With Cis" shirts.

I both agree and disagree on this point. I think some writers can really pull AUs off, but they're few and far between, for sure. I don't mind it so long as the characters aren't messed with.

I saw a lot of stuff like that in the roleplaying community. People changed established characters' personalities, sexualities, etc to fit how they thought they "should" be, to the point where they barely resembled themselves. Silly me, I should've just done that instead of lovingly building my own character from the ground up! OCs are for losers!

I feel that way as well. I'm a fan of What if... stories and new ways of looking at things, but there should always be some respect.
