Haven't even considered buying them because I know I'd just fucking lose the things in the couch or something. I am literally the guy who has been fifteen minutes late for work because I couldn't find my damn glasses.

Consider Beats products. Yes, they used to be a meme, but due to being owned by Apple now, they literally have much of the same tech as the AirPods products but are generally more affordable. I've been using a pair of Beats Flex buds for a couple years now; they have the strap that connects the buds behind the neck so I can never lose them, and they sound pretty great to me (though IANA audiophile). But even if you do want the separate more-losable earbuds, the various Beats-branded ones are more affordable than the AirPods.

Yes, if price is the main concern, you can go even cheaper and get Walmart store-branded ones (Onn; in my experience these products are actually pretty good so I imagine the headphones would be as well), but I feel like I definitely got my money's worth with the Beats Flex.

Sennheiser CX True Wireless

Me personally, I would get those over the Apple version. They are cheaper, probably fit in the ear better, and are made by company known for good headphones and headsets.

I will admit, I'm not into wireless ear pieces but if I had to pick, that would be it from a quick search.

Apple will have a stream announcing new products Tuesday at 1:00 PM ET. Current rumors include:
  • A bumped iPhone SE with 5G
  • A "Mac Studio" which would be larger and more powerful than the Mac mini but more affordable and less expandable than a Mac Pro. (As much as I might be interested in such a product, I'm guessing this one isn't real, though there have been long-running rumors of a "smaller Mac Pro" which might have been in reference to this product.)
  • A new display, possibly with a built-in A-series chip and running iOS. (So I guess basically an iPad on a stand which can also be used as an external monitor, if the A-series chip part is true.)
  • A bump to the iPad Air

So far correct on everything! Nothing really exciting in my opinion but the iPhone SE will probably sell gangbusters.

That display is starts at 1599 and doesnt even come with a height adjustable stand or vesa, thats extra. They didnt even mention fucking refresh rate.

Basic Airpods 1 and 2? I mean they're decent, but kinda pricy for what they are, and don't really offer anything special. Like... they play sound, not great but not terribly, and the controls are kinda janky. They also either fit your ears great and are super comfortable, or they just don't and you're SOL. For me they had a tendency to fall out. As a major Applefag I honestly dunno if I'd recommend them.

Airpods Pro's? Well worth the $180-200 you see them priced at nowadays, and I really don't think there's a better competitor on the market. The fit is a lot better since it comes with various sized eartips, they're really comfortable, the noise cancelling works really well, and the haptic fake-buttons on the stems are a massive improvement over blindly groping the Airpod stems hoping to get them to do something. I'd be hard-pressed to think of anything I wish it did better.

@CHARizard the display does have an option for a Vesa mount, though it seems to be a completely separate product and not just something that's built in. Of course, the Vesa mount version, which doesn't come with a stand arm, still costs the same as the normal version. You can also get an additional height-adjustable stand for a whopping $400 premium - no, there is no option to buy it with JUST the height-adjustable stand without including the useless non-adjustable one because... Apple, I guess.

RIP 27" iMac.
It seems like Apple has, for years, been trying different things to satisfy the "pros who can't afford a Mac Pro" market. There was the G4 Cube, the iMac Pro, various beefed-up Mac minis over the years, and now I guess they're trying the Mac Studio, so out the door the iMac Pro goes. Maybe the Studio will stick around for a while. I guess we'll see.

Watch as they fuck this launch up completely somehow.

Since their existence they've done this. I wonder if there's a complete list of all Apple products ever and an analysis of how many of them were absolute duds. Remember the Lisa? Or the Newton? The Newton was actually pretty cool tech for the time but with its lack of adoption was ultimately essentially useless to most people.
I hate Tim Cook so god damn much

He looks more pregnant than the Gunt's horse. Or maybe that's protease paunch from the antiretrovirals.

I mean is it THAT hard to put out a desktop in the $1000-1500 range? There’s still a big gap between the $700 Mac Mini and the $2000 Mac Studio.

There's rumors the next mini will offer an M2 Pro version. The problem is if you want 32GB of memory you're getting close to the price of the entry level studio so why bother?

Well, the Mac mini will get into that range if you upgrade the base memory and storage, and iMacs start at $1300, but both of those are currently still using the OG M1.

If the M1 Ultra has to be cooled with a V8 engine, to fit the M2 in a mini, it'd have to be… actually weaker than the M1 Ultra then? Or are they then going to bump the Studio with an M2 (+superlative) to continue giving it a reason for existence? Not really sure what Apple's approach is going to be.

as shitty as they are, apple is playing the long game:
  • release new phone basically every year
  • phone has very pricey tech part thingies that is very hard to be recycled, oh well
  • limitted tech part thingies decrease, price increases
  • phones become more expensive
  • more monies for my giant ass company
  • repeat
its fucking brilliant. evil but brilliant

The first 30 minutes of the March 18th WAN Show consisted of Linus bitching about Apple, it's pretty funny:
  • It's all about the Mac Studio, and how there's apparently a second SSD slot in there despite the machine officially not designed to be upgradable
  • the Mac Studio has a hardwired monitor cable, or maybe it's not hardwired, who knows?!?!?!?!?!?!
  • Apple's own documentation says it's not removable
  • MacRumors wrote an article reporting that it's not removable, but then they took it down, so Linus read off an archived copy of the article
  • Some blue checkmark pajeet posted a picture of the cable removed
  • Linus and Luke risk breaking their (retail) Mac Studio to try and pull the cable
  • At 28 minutes, Linus eventually does pull it out, but it takes him a ton of effort to do so, it's really fit in there tightly, but it ultimately is removable. Luke mentioned he could feel the entire case bend when Linus took it out
  • They say lots of silly little things throughout and you could probably cut up their words and make it sound like they're having gay sex lol
