There's that, and the complete fuckup that was the "withdrawal" from Afghanistan. The Middle East conflicts have been such disastrous shitshows with nothing gained from them that I don't blame developers for being disenchanted with the setting, it's probably why the upcoming Modern Warfare II is rumored to shift over to South America.
I have gotten too much used to that aesthetic at this point and want moar.

On a side note, Battlefield 1 was truly the last one where they put serious effort.

So, what are the odds that 2042 is the one that kills the whole franchise?

This game has failed catastrophically. Even if they somehow fix all of the issues and get a good content drop later this year, they fucked up the launch and so many people have already written off the game as a result. It's going to be an incredibly difficult task to get people to come back.

EA also had their financial meeting where they basically said "Battlefield isn't critical to our success" and said they were carried through the year by Apex and FIFA. And EA aren't exactly the kind of company to sink money into a project if they can't guarantee a sizable and quick reward,

It'll depend on what they'll do to DICE and if they decide to "dial down" the expanded universe they're planning (AKA, canceling shit). If they downsize DICE into more of a support studio and "dial down", it's a sure sign 2042 poisoned BF like The Last Jedi poisoned Star Wars (when it comes to films, at least). If they were to outright shut DICE down, Battlefield dies with them until they try again with a different studio years down the line (like the upcoming Dead Space remake).

My prediction is that this ends up being more of a Mass Effect Andromeda situation where all planned DLCs and games currently in development are cancelled and the series is put on ice for a few years before being quietly reworked down the line.

I'd be surprised if they put any time into the game beyond fulfilling promises to the season pass holders, and whatever they get will be done at minimum cost and effort. Just enough to avoid legal liability.

They might not even do that. People who were dumb enough to buy the season pass for Mass Effect Andromeda were basically told "lol DLCs cancelled, fuck you."

Googling now I see one came out at the end of 2020 that I never heard of. I always felt they fucked up relaunching that with the 2010/2012 releases.

The 2010 game had the SP done in unreal. Then DICE did the MP in Frostbite and it was really solid. It was basically an Afghanistan version of BC2. There was a massive disconnect between how both modes felt and looked. I don't even think I finished the SP, but the MP was good. MP looked good in Frostbite. SP looked shit in Unreal.

Then the next game had the reverse. While I think it was all Frostbite (from wiki) both modes were done by different devs separately. So looked and felt different. The SP looked pretty good. The MP was low quality and crap. I also think the SP was better than any recent DICE SP attempts.

They could pivot and just do a more stripped back BF again with MOH, but they'd still need to focus on a great SP.

I suspect DICE will move on to trying to refocus 2042 around Portal. It will be a hell of a lot easier to just add more maps to that, fix the errors in how it sets up those games than to rebuild the main game from the ground up.

portal is ripple effect (formerly dice la). main game aka the shit parts were done by dice sweden.

I see that EA's getting inspiration from Ubisoft and The Division, in regards to this weekly mission's reward.

The game is almost approaching double-digit viewer territory on Twitch.

There is an ongoing petition for EA to give refunds to BF2042 owners, but it's not like EA's actually going to do anything about it.

Now I feel EA is just taking the piss. I feel insulted and I didn't even BUY the game.
That's pretty much them giving up on the game without publicly acknowledging it. Whenever they get around to doing seasons, I only expect battle passes focused on the single new specialist and half-assed looking camos/paintjobs. Outside of the one map that was supposed to come out in March (bear in mind that even Battlefield V got its first new map within a month), I can't expect them to have the resources needed to make new maps unless they cobble them together with the assets the game launched with (even that's a stretch, I'm thinking the game will only get that single map).

I either have don't have standards or I just have an itch for a new, modern Battlefield. I want to play it after having used my trial but I'm not paying 60 for 7 maps where you get gunned down for maps having no cover and running to Eminem's 8 Mile to another objective.

Some "EA Creator" is saying that he's sick of the community's complaints about BF2042, and says that the only issues are the performance and bugs:

His look really tells a lot about the kind of person that he is. He also said that BF4 had the worst map designs in the franchise...

I want to give this faggot a swirly.
I also want to know why he's wearing a bathrobe in this video.

And when Artifact streams, even though that's the category that is used to pirate stream content, and Twitch actually cracked down on those types of streams initially, but they seem to be happening again, are getting more views than people actually streaming Battlefield 2042, on a Sunday, that's just sad. And the numbers are even worse during the off-peak hours.

And when even the game's community managers want nothing to do with the game, because it would require actually interacting with the community...

A game so dead, its name is used to stream pirated material, HAS MORE viewership than 2042. From a franchise with a huge name, Battlefield. Damn, 2042 is an epic fail.

Reddit is a shithole though

I like how that guy is complaining about reddit not being a constructive environment on fucking twitter of all places.

Again, the people involved in this game are totally disconnected from reality.
