Unless you're moving to an Anglophone country or are bilingual, you'll probably have a tough time being an expat. and let's face it, none of the Anglophone countries are currently doing well, freedomwise.
I'll leave where we are going a secret.

Tfw the only place we could feasible move our family is more authoritarian than the US and has a plethora of issues. I've been trying to get the husband to move for two years now, unsuccessfully.

If I might make some bitter notes. Those most likely to be fucked by any serious unrest are also those who have the least means to get away from it. Even as I take advantage of my own to leave... it's bothering my conscience on that note. Yet to determine what I can do about it though.
Nah, don't beat yourself up over it. The thing is, we all do whatever we can to keep each other safe. It's impossible for you individually (or us in this thread collectively) to significantly provide for those who are at most risk if shit starts kicking off. At the end of the day, you're keeping yourself and your family safe, and that's always something to be proud of.

Rice. Beans. (Multiple kinds). Flour. Cornmeal. Bottled Water and water filters. Canned meat. (Spam may not be good to eat but it'll do the trick) Cheap spices (Garlic salt, onion salt, pepper, Mrs. Dash) and basic bitch hot sauce.

Toilet paper. Light bulbs. Batteries (rechargable and non). Kerosene. Gasoline. Fuel pellets and tabs. Coleman heating/cooling stove about the size of a coffee can.

Long rifle, shotgun, pistol. Machete. 500 rounds of ammo for each. Get used to iron sights. All that tacticool shit is great right up until you drop your rifle. Red dot is for pussies.

Those are your basics.

There's a weird ugly undercurrent that I don't like.

Buy it now before your money is even further devalued by the non-existent inflation and the doesn't exist supply chain issues.

Or, point and laugh at me, your choice.
I bought crypto....and lost it in a boating accident

If anything goes down it will be one of three things.

1: An authoritarian crackdown that will affect every state regardless.
2: Insurgent action, likely on both sides, which... will effect every state regardless.
3: Full on civil war which... you get the idea.

Now, I am not predicting the third. But the first and second are very much on the table at some point. I had to make a hard decision which resulted in me determining I have the funds and the connections to move somewhere more stable and keep my family safe.
If America goes to shit, the whole world will follow soon after.

Did you give any thought as to which states in the US would be better/worse to be if some of these things happen? Asking for a friend...

The least densely populated red states. The ones you can get a little farm or get a house in small-town America and be mostly self-sufficient.

I understand you don't talk much about your work but is it the polling that did it?

Something in the polls that raised big red flags.

Hmm, of sorts. It's a series of trendlines compared to trends of the past which create a lot of similarities that cannot be ignored.

I don't care what happens. I'm not leaving. I'm not running. I still believe in my neighbors, my town, my country, even if it stopped believing in itself.

I've undergone hardship before, I can handle it again.

Less dooming and more Biden L's.

I agree with almost all of this, but I haven't undergone hardships and probably can't handle them.

Three things to keep in mind, no matter how bad it gets:

#1: You're still pulling in air, so you're ahead of the game.
#2: It could ALWAYS be worse.
#3: Life isn't fair, suck it up and drive on.

Keep those in mind, and anything is able to be withstood.

That's the saddest thing about this pandemic; the absolute irrational fear they have installed in a lot of these people. Who, let's be honest, probably weren't the most stable people in 2019.
Seems 2020 made the true colors of modern urban "society" more clear: a loony bin.
