I've known people who knew him. I always found his politics utterly loathsome. I also liked hate-listening to his radio show, and had fun arguing with cow-orkers and the boss about why he was a fat idiot, so I have a soft spot for him.

I avoid things that make me angry very deliberately. The site's primary purpose is to make people laugh. If it doesn't make me laugh I ignore it. That's why you almost never see me in the politics boards.

My opinion is that the site's continued success over the years is owed to this philosophy. People like Gator try to paint it as a personal army, but if it were really used as such, I don't think so many people would participate in it. The outlook that things should be casual, lighthearted, and hands-off is fundamental to the community. If I let shit get to me it'd be a poison and it would definitely drive users away.
