Viva Frei is on right now, walking around and letting people talk. While I don't agree with everything they've discussed, it's nice to actually hear what the "common" people think. Like most of the people there are just normal, regular joes whose "radical" views are that they're sick of not seeing their family and their jobs being threatened.

Of course, when a redditor finally comes out and starts shrieking in the streets, shit gets 100x funnier. But for now, I like the calm comments and normal Canadians just saying 'Y'know, I've had enough. And I can stay out here for months.' Makes for comfy viewing.

This is something that's important to touch on because it shows how shitty of a capital Ottawa is.
This protest should not have sent the city into an instant stand still with all the time the city had to prepare, yet the roads are always so jam packed with people that one setback always sends the city reeling.
Someone pointed out earlier that people don't realize how small Ottawa really is. The city only has a population of about a million, with most of that being concentrated in suburbs. I would add that downtown Ottawa is one of the most poorly organized cities you will ever be in. People have been complaining for years about the bridges from Gatineau to Ottawa always being clogged since it's cheaper for government workers to live in Gatineau. The roads downtown are constantly full of parked cars, poorly plowed snow banks and construction.

Downtown Ottawa, despite only having a population of about 5K, holds some of the richest people in the city. A shitty "historical" house next to the Rideau Canal is upwards of 1.5mil$, some of them being valued at up to 4mil$. They hold all the cards in terms of signage. If you live downtown, or at least go there frequently, you'd know what I mean. Going down Booth street is a pain in the ass, they're constantly adding speed bumps and speed cams. Traffic is always crammed down these tiny residential streets like Booth.

I don't think this street view is up to date, since they added more speed bumps every 50m or so. Imagine about 2-3 feet of road being blocked by snow banks on each side and there being parked cars as well. That's how downtown Ottawa is every winter.

Besides that, Ottawa offers next to nothing in terms of tourist attractions. You can only go to visit Parliament Hill so many times before you get fucking bored.

I would add that a lot of Canadians consider Toronto as their capital, as shitty as it is. Quebecers consider Montreal to be a better option, but i digress.
TL;DR: Ottawa sucks and I could not give less of a shit about the people complaining about the honking. If you paid 2mil for an 1900s house with shitty plumbing and no isolation, you're a fucking retard and you will get 0 sympathy from me. I do feel slightly bad for students in dorms, though.

Having had some time to think about it, i believe Canadians were the perfect people to kick off worker rebellions. The polite resolve they have has given the government plenty of rope to neck itself, their protest is completely nonviolent to the point that agitators are easily spotted and shooed off. The government can't crack skulls without making the truckers' point, especially given the mostly peaceful summer of 2020.

Ottawa was little more than a canal building camp called in 1841 "Bytown" when it was made the capital as a compromise with the Frenchies & so it wouldn't be a stone's throw away from the US border in case of 1812 commencing again. So no wonder the downtown roads are poorly planned!
