I really appreciate all the Americans who came up to join the protest. They're honestly a massive asset in preventing the government from going full jackboot (along with the international press coverage).

If this was like previous protests where the coverage and influence was entirely local, the government would have just had a media blackout on any coverage, then done whatever they wanted to the protestors to disperse them.

The US citizens and international press coverage present in significant quantities throws a wrench into the works for Trudeau. While he can control the proles in Canada with the narrative of "look, they had the bad bad flags, stood on the cenotaph, and put a flag on the Terry Fox statue, so they deserved to get beaten, gassed, and arrested en masse!", the argument doesn't hold when it's heard and seen internationally by those not subject to constant clown world Canadian media.

And going full authoritarian on US citizens? While the 'conservative party' here in Canada will gladly throw their citizens under the bus, "15 US civilians beaten and arrested in Ottawa protest" will have the US Republicans baying for blood, and even ol' Joe might use it to his advantage. Joe doesn't mind beating his children, but it's another thing altogether to let your neighbor beat your children. It would be quite the international incident. And even the left wing US press and politicians would have a chance to smear Trudeau and Canada over it, as a sort of "Hey, you guys think my blue state COVID policies are bad? Look at what they're doing up there! You guys are lucky!".

So, all the US citizens and international press coverage has TPTB not knowing what to do. At this point, they're just running the clock hoping the protestors give up, or they can miraculously invent a strong enough false flag (that's more than just 1 picture of a naughty flag).

For all the people watching, don't worry too much about the optics so far. The Canadian government and media was going to smear no matter what. If they couldn't use something real, then they'd invent anything. This protest was never going to get positive coverage, and the cowards in Canadian politics (spare the PPC) were always going to find or invent a reason to denounce them.

Right now the Canadian government is going through the stages of grief over their proles finally resisting their authoritarianism after 2 years. Right now, they're on anger.

    "There is no protest against the mandates and lockdowns. OK, there is a protest, but it's about road conditions. OK, the protest isn't about road conditions, but it's actually super small, it's meaningless."

    "REE despite never caring about the military or Terry Fox before, we're going treat these actions worse than the literal rioting and vandalism conducted by BLM! How dare they! Have you seen these 2 pictures of the naughty flags in a crowd of 1000s? REE STOP THE HONKING!"

  3. bargaining
    "Ok, we accept that you're angry about all the bullshit rules, but we had to do them, ok? It's for public safety. We promise that if you all go home, we'll start considering how we'll 'live with COVID' (which means making mask mandates and vaccine passes permanent up here in leaf land)."

  4. depression
    "It's been 2 weeks and they're still honking. If I false flag them, nobody internationally will believe it. And if I send in the jackboots I can't act smugly superior to other countries, and they'll use this to rub it in my face"

  5. acceptance
    (this is the point where he actually starts negotiating, or he goes full jackboot)

And to think back in time Hull, now amalgated with Aylmer and Gatineau to form the current city of Gatineau, was once mainly an industrial town with paper mills like E.B. Eddy.
