We may be heading towards a historical aberration. The fate of all Democracies and Republics historically has been to eventually succumb once more to Authoritarian ideologies based around inherited power. Oligarchies and Monarchies. Machiavelli noted this, and pointed out the absolute longest a Democracy or Republic can last is 300 years.I mean here is the thing they don't understand the average Nazi was a normal proud Austrian or German proud of their linguistic heritage. No one wakes up one day and says kill off all Jews even their children unironically. People get riled up and things escalate.
No one wakes up one day and becomes a Nazi they get pushed because the alternatives are shut out. These people like the plebbit people are dealing what they're sowing. Unironically cancelling their family because they watched rebel news or like Jordon Peterson. These people don't understand if they keep screaming fascist and shutting down all debate pretty soon they will have their fascists and they might not win that argument.
It's hard to argue for fascism if said nation has a strong liberal identity. Ie england, the US, Canada and etc.. you're more likely to see a Communist government before a fascist one.
However ex communist countries tend to have a strong romanticism towards fascism. It's a weird oddity about people.
The issue now however is this cycle is reaching its end point in an era of mass global media, literacy and nationalism. Which means the "slow boil" that usually precedes the fall of a free society has been noticed, by a massive section of not just the Aristocracy but also the peasants. Which means we are in science fiction territory.
