Maybe I'm just a simple country girl, but I thought "the city that never sleeps" was a literal reality, so being told that every night isn't a loud block party is disillusioning for me. I thought city folk were cooler than that.

Agreed. City people are the weirdo aliens who are the problem. There's this truckstop in Overton Nebraska I always stop at ran by immigrant Indians. Great little place though not super fancy. Good restaurant if you are down with the food. Cheap diesel. And all the rural townsfolk seamlessly blend with it. Last time I was in they were teaching a couple local HS farm girls how to run the diesel desk.

Pretty sure they chain migrated the whole family from a similarly rural place in Kashmir or whatever. But they know how to get along and fit right in. That isn't a bad thing to me. Nobody else was going to run that place and if they didn't we would have lost it and it would be just another abandoned ruin of an old truckstop along I-80.

Also to reinforce the scale of this protest it's not just Ottawa affected. The Coutts border crossing in Alberta (a key trucking crossing into the US) has been shut down by protestors. If this carries on into Monday and beyond things are going to get spicy.

I'm really sure that the truckers, most of whom have assuredly driven in countless Canadian winters thought that Trudeau magically dropped the temperature on them like a Marvel movie villain or something. Of all the things that happened, that happened the most.

One obvious mistake that they continue to make is that they think these truckers are as flawed and soft as them and in the same ways. Oh, they are just racist. Oh, they are just stupid. Oh, they are just weak.

If these soytards somehow left their pods and ventured out into weather like that they would have resorted to cannibalism in hours. Therefore anyone who did so had to have panicked even worse by their thinking.

That these protestors are fully capable adults better than them at many things who just want to be left alone but the government won't allow it doesn't ever cross their minds. The urban elitism is real and drips off of them with every move they make.

Terry Fox championed cancer research and advancements in treatment of the disease that was killing him. Had he been diagnosed two years before, he had a 10% chance to live.in two years they had developed enough experimental research to give him the time to become the icon we know. He was also studying kinesiology. He ran across Canada because he was mad we were not funding the efforts of what appeared to be treatable.

So in reality he demanded you pay money for experimental research into a disease that affects hundreds of thousands world wide. If there was a vaccine which eliminated a 50% chance of developing cancer, he'd probably tell you to take it after watching people suffer through chemo and die horrendously. He did chemotherapy himself. He clearly deeply believed in medicine and the science community far more than any politics.

The Terry Fox rhetoric is more embarrassing for the trucker side than anything else. It's embarrassing our citizens have no idea who he is. It's embarrassing a man who dedicated his life to cancer research is being used as a political grandstand.

Lastly, these are tactics Americans used in Afghanistan to drive out insurgents from caves. A few months ago this Asian broad refused to fix her broken car alarm that went off all night for one night and kept up the entire square block. In the morning, another neighbor came out with no shoes or shirt screaming walking in the middle of the road asking who's car it was and that they had better claim it now before he starts smashing it.

They could've just sat there. But instead they traveled across the country and turned most of the local population against them as no sane person could legitimately withstand several hours of honking. Pretty much no average pedestrian locally will back up their cause now because it's an actual headache to do so. Most protests cause traffic jams, some littering, police presence - our worst in recent memory was the G20 years and years ago as we, much more than America, protest peacefully. Toronto had an entire day dedicated for decades to a Marijuana March where people smoked and sold weed in public next to cops as protest. But to cause 48 hours of non stop noise pollution is military tactics deployed on mostly average citizens.

I agree with their cause but I egged the shit out of the broken alarm car the next night when it went off again. It reminds me of South Park and bikers being faggots. It's got that vibe right now.

Edited: I'm not sure some yall know what -20C is. That's -4F. Frostbite occurs below 31F. The toughest sherpas climbing mountains lose extremities to cold exposure. Nothing about sitting inside of a heated truck cab for several hours a day prepared them for this. Farmers don't even set their cows out to pasture in this weather.

These people should have grabbed a few ship horns. Also a few of those custom vans with sound systems built for decibels. Just play random bands with the horns blaring so people could never hear music without PTSD kicking in.

Also some of these truckers need the General Lee horn.
