Ray was the best AH member period tbh. He might've had some overplayed bits but the man was super quick witted, worked well with every other member of AH and it also helped that he was really good at games too. I know people being retarded and unskilled in games has its draw, but it was nice to see someone at least halfway competent in every game. Outright dominant in a few too.
All this Ray talk made me check out his YouTube channel. I put on his recent play of True Crime: Streets of L.A. - because I had that game when I was younger - and found:
  • Constant remarks about how bad the game looks/aged poorly
  • Being reduced to hysterics because he can have DADDY69 as his license plate
  • Similarly reduced to hysterics because he heard the word "fingered" (in the sense of "snitched on")
  • Dramatically rolling his eyes every time the main character makes a quip
  • Finding "racism" where there is none
What I'm asking is: was Ray always this painfully unfunny or is it a recent thing? Is this what Twitch does to a man?

I've watched some of his Yakuza gameplays and those are pretty funny.

Ray was great in a group because he was always really good at playing off of other people, that's why he was so beloved in AH because he served as a great foil/backboard for the rest of the group since his slightly drier personality helped balance out the rest. Ray on his own is a pretty dry personality and his Twitch has never interested me.

I'll always say that if it had been Fiona they would've swept that under the rug faster than they threw Ryan under the bus.
Considering they knew, or at least heavily suspected, Ryan's Con trysts for years and said nothing this doesn't hold much weight.

Fuck, some of them knew his wife and still said nothing to her about Ryan's rampant cheating (which his wife already caught him doing once before and stupidly forgave him) even if they didn't know he was a grooming statutory rapist.

She looks like the type to do femdom. That or she's super repressed by presenting an anti-sex image to be allowed in the proper circles in this day and age.
I get the exact opposite vibe off of her, she looks like she lays there and expects you to do all the work.

Such a stupid hypocritical moment where Jeremy tries to install that he has a superior work ethic to a guy who runs his own YouTube channel along with appearing in and living up every main roosterteeth series he's made to be apart of.

The absolute funniest thing about this is that you'd think Jeremy was getting angry at Gavin cause of the shantae video, but it's actually the mod tag video, in which Gavin does the most memorable thing in that slog of a let'splay (machinimating) and you just realize that Jeremy is pissed cause his favorite guy Gavin was calling his idea for a video dumb.

Not to brush off the other multiple things wrong with this (Gavin doesn't have time to research your favorite games when he just got back from doing anything else) but like. Brawlhalla? Titanfall 2? Fortnight at any point? Why are people just assuming Jeremy hasn't brought a video down in quality cause of one reason or another? What a dumb moment to take at face value.

There seems to be a period of time where things were extremely tense over video ideas and how people should act in videos. A good example of this would be the Destiny Salt Raid. AH joked about the whole thing ending because of that series, but what the viewers got instead was a management change and the complete loss of AH's soul.

I restarted the AH Minecraft Let's Play playlist from episode one and I'm up to episode thirteen now (Find the Tower part 1) and something I've also noticed is that AH was way meaner to each other ten years ago. Yeah Jack was always a joyless salty bitch but besides him everyone seems to be able to both sling and take shit, some of it pretty vitriolic. I'll keep the thread updated with my unsolicited thoughts on the series as I go on.

PS: They also are far less afraid to make jokes about race and even did a whole bit about how "do you think that Hitler was ever the house guest that the whole time he was over for dinner people were wondering how long it would take him to leave?"

The attempt at rewriting history by both AH and the fans as "the humor didn't change, you did" is such bullshit. AH was cutting and funny and had a hell of a chemistry from the very start of their Let's Plays. I remember watching the Mari0 LP and being blown away by how quickly they all riffed off of each other and made a stupid Mario mod really really fun to watch.

And that was them all crowded around a single computer with shitty, blown out microphones. They grew despite that, due to the quality. I know I'm not saying anything new by pointing out the chemistry was the draw, but it is genuinely shocking if you go back and forth.

I also hold the opinion that AH was watchable for a pretty long time, up to maybe 2018 or so. It was always diminishing returns (their humor in 2018 was definitely closer to 2021 than 2013), but their videos were something I could put on and enjoy pretty much regardless of subject until that point.

My real regret is that I never bucked up and bought a couple huge hard drives to download all of AH's content. All the online archives are woefully incomplete, and a lot of content is now purged from AH's channel.

The thing that makes me laugh is how much RT fucked their company by growing way to fast and having really nepotistic hiring. I think each of the founders besides Gus (I'm guessing he's pussywhipped beyond belief) is a multiple divorcee. Don't try to take this as me being a moral busybody, but generally a marriage failing is a sign of some personal problems, if it's more than two don't fucking get married until you talk to someone about why you keep fucking up. This wouldn't be an issue if you didn't see this happen a ton in their company from anyone who fucking walks on screen.

I think Roosterteeth fostered an environment of immaturity. I watched their content as RWBY started, but stopped because I wanted to play videogames and they started becoming rich assholes who talked about taking flights more than anything else. It feels like a company of people who just stagnated. Jack is the epitome of this, the guy was trying to work in videogames and now is in a sexless marriage building fucking legos. The initial spark of their company was guys trying to make beer money off of really low-effort content, Machinima was always going to die as 3D animation got cheaper to do and Monty was not fucking good enough to compete in that environment either. Monty couldn't adapt and had to basically hamstring better animators to use old software, him dying is probably the best thing for his legacy.

When they tried to pivot to a new project they lost that spark. Ray was the canary in the coal mines, I don't like his new content, but the guy is unrecognizable compared to a decade ago and he should. He grew up from some poor kid from New York to a guy who owns a few rental properties in Texas. Roosterteeth is unrecognizable like a Frankenstein of poor attempts to pivot in other directions.

Funny how he was called a god of animation thanks to Haloid and Dead Fantasy on the Internet. And RT getting him was a big fucking deal. And then there was the Red trailer.

him dying is probably the best thing for his legacy.
And it's probably the worst thing that could have happened to RT. At the very least that was the Titanic hitting the iceberg.

Gen Lock was their next chance to get to Hollywood after Mica fucked off. And RvB seems more and more dead, especially after Zero. And RWBY is...not going the way anyone would have hoped. And Death Battle, it Could have been the second of two prongs with RWBY for RT if they still wanted to be top dogs on the Internet instead of trying to be the new name of entertainment, even if they just distribute at most (not entirely sure how that absorbtion/partnership works), but instead those guys could fuck off to any other big name that'll give them the amount of creative freedom they want and will put their foot down for.

Not a great outlook for those guys.

It's telling that even the Rooster Teeth reddit is sick of the current direction RT is taking. Most of the RVB Zero threads were full of derison for the show, and nowadays most threads don't get any traffic outside of the threads criticising the company. Add in how low their Youtube numbers are getting and it's just a case where the outside perception of the company is falling apart.

I've watched several early Minecraft LPs and Gav's Tower, one of the "recent" ones and holy shit.
Like you said, the earlier ones were "Bully Gavin" pretty much, Michael hating Gavin's guts like you would not believe, black humor and profanity not being bleeped all around.

I can't stand any AH member anymore. Like I said above, rewatching the Minecraft series, it gives off this aura of nostalgia kept in a time capsule that was better left unopened, and the more I watch the more I want to scream into their faces to stop.

But now it's too late.

But see that's the thing, sure they bullied the shit out of Gavin but they also bullied the shit out of everyone else. Calling each other retards, telling each other to shut the fuck up in those exact terms, physical violence, telling each other to kill themselves, threatening sodomy, and all of this done in a very cutting angry tone. Another thing that I had forgotten was how jank and slapdash a lot of their early builds were and how that was kinda part of the fun since it wasn't someone else's mod that they're just running through.

I know what Rooster Teeth will blame their rapidly declining numbers on. Racism.

You know it's bad when even your animated show that's meant to highlight antics within your content is failing to get more then 100k views within a day of uploading. What's more funny is I've noticed them slapping the Squad Team Force logo onto content that should just be normal everyday RoosterTeeth content. It comes off like someone trying to push out a new item that you don't want while the old one is still for sale.

It was a more raw and purer time on YouTube. I stumbled on the Salt Raid clip last night, the part where Michael tells Ryan to "have more sex" and he loses it yelling that "I'M TRYING TO MAKE A VIDEO!" and that literal nobody Alfredo yelling back at him.

Going off from my experience, having raided in FF14 and Destiny 2 (only that first vanilla raid for a bit), it's a mixed bag of both POVs, you learn while you do but you better read / watch something beforehand just to be safe.

Basically Alfredo was hired purely for his FPS skills, right? Why Trevor though? For being #51 in line for banging Barbara?
