everyone is used to sex stuff being used to derail nominations but there is a lot of other stuff that can and will get dug up

Sotomayor and Kagan were *very unusually* clean for Democratic judges of our era

imagine Harris being nominated for the Supreme Court and imagine everything there is in her background coming out.

there is a inverse proportion between dirt and career experience that makes a SCOTUS nomination not a total joke. they skated very very close to a ridiculous nominee with Sotomayor and this time they'll have to either go straight SJW and nominate a heroic single mother who just finished law school and will bring her lived experience to the bench or they'll have to pick someone like Harris who has the chops but also the mountains of dirt.

Also, a question on student loan forgiveness: I know when you have your loan partially dismissed under the public sector exception (or whatever it's called, basically you work in the public sector for 10 years while making minimum payments and whatever is left over after 10 years is dismissed) that left over amount gets tacked on as your income for the year when it's dismissed and you have to pay income taxes on it. Will the same happen if they forgive student loans through executive order?

Imagine people who are ecstatic about having their student loans removed only to find out that they owe the IRS money lmao.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but you have an administration in free fall and the VP is even more unpopular than the president (who is senile and may not run again). Wouldn’t you want to jettison the VP in a manner that you could argue was a promotion (Lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land) and then try to replace her with someone who polls ahead of genital herpes?

Jackson appears as if she’s being groomed for the role and has a better resume (courtesy of Obama and Biden), so she’d probably be a more likely pick unless the dems are thinking strictly about longevity. Kruger OTOH has a meager resume, and the fact that her wiki page lists her as a possible future candidate for SCOTUS nom despite that just screams affirmative action. In addition, here are some of the other names being thrown around:

That's funny. I believe usually the IRS interaction with student loans is that interest is a credit or deduction or whatever, the end result is you don't get taxed on student loan interest.

So by journalism logic (the journalists who turned less money being withheld for taxes into a tax hike), that would effectively be student loan forgiveness being a double tax. First you pay tax on it, then you don't get a tax break on it.

You know how people will refer to "bad luck" to mean when someone goes through misfortunes and "good luck" to mean when someone has good things happen to them. Yet, when you say someone is "lucky" it's always assumsed to mean "good luck" even though they didn't specify if the luck was good or bad?

That's how I feel reading this article headline. What do you mean "votes", did they vote "yes" or "no"? Or are they still voting with no outcome yet. Specify.

Like I said, they will be holding votes to certify or not certify. The “votes” in the headline was referring to them moving forward with the motion of the voting. A vote-ception, if you will.
