He's asking for $20,000 - it's a sales tactic. Hit people with the bigger number first ($890,000) then take the pressure off and reveal that you're only asking for $20,000 - which suddenly seems like a much smaller number by comparison.

He also says "20k" - do Americans say 20,000 that way? I thought that was a British thing.

Yes. Turning "Thousand -> Kilo -> K" is a thing in America. They also use "G"(rand) if they are trying to seem gangsta earnestly or ironicly.

ZDR got 20K on his way out the door, you know that's an accheivable number, might as well try to get it.

In text form I would type 20k but speaking out loud I would say 20 grand and never really thought of it as gangsta.

I waver back and forth on whether I hate ironic or unironic gangsta talk worse so maybe I should stop.

Where I am from in Eastern Europe, it was common for us to reference 1000 units as K. It's SI.

Is there a place where it is not common to use the SI symbol?

Is internet really $140 per month in Canadia?? Anyways they're also begging for $400 (plus an additional $150 if ithe job "takes more than 3 hours" which it will) for movers. It's the luxury aspect of this shit that kills me. Dude, you don't have any money, you are supposedly more-than-broke, you are begging strangers for money... Move your own shit! There's more than one of you fat lards and you mention family as well, rent a fucking truck and move your goddamn selves. Box truck for a day is like $100 and you get 24 hours instead of 5-6. Shit you'd save money renting the truck and paying some rando another $100 to help considering it's only a few hours.

This guy is a lifelong polydrug abuser with an extensive history of inpatient treatment. It's a safe bet that he repeatedly stole from his family to get high long before he had a shot at that sweet, sweet corpse cash, so no shit his family would have done everything in their power to keep him from getting hundreds of thousands of dollars. He would have relapsed and blown through it in a year anyway, possibly dying in the process (really too bad he didn't get it).
