Call me an asshole if you'd like, but good. Those QA should have been fired. Warzone, Cold War and Vanguard are the biggest pieces of shit I've seen from a AAA game, and it's not even the big stuff, it's the small stuff. Placeholder text on weapon challenges, guns that worked fine last patch suddenly having glaring problems, complete lack of even a base glance by QA.
Either the QA team is fucking worthlessly incompetent and don't deserve the job, or Activision is wasting money staffing them only to ignore them. Doesn't matter which.

Anyone who hears of a 'pay restructuring' and doesn't immediately expect to start seeing layoffs is completely ignorant and sounds very in character for an industry that as I understand has a lot of contractor workers, sure its a shame to hear people losing their jobs but I don't feel sympathy for people who saw the writing on the wall and ignored it.
I'm not sure why Jim is continuing to shout at his audience about the conditions game devs have to put up with because surely its up to them to do something? Whatever happened to all that talk of worker's rights back when Telltale went under?

Ok, I got my foot in the door to the industry as QA, I've worked those trenches, it's a thankless job that is way harder than you think it would be, and is absolutely soul sucking most days, that said... Unless QA was reporting shit and it wasn't being fixed, then my own professional standards and pride in the work I've done demands I also call for them being fired. Someone being fired isn't a sign of cruelty, it's a sign of them being shit at their fucking jobs. Sometimes, yeah, people get fucked in unjustifiable ways. This isn't one. The QA there has been a laughing stock of the industry for a few years now. I've heard of people putting down they worked for Activision QA on resumes when applying to other companies and getting asked "Can you list real QA work?", and to me that says it all.

Uhhh, I'm just a filthy pleb peasant but even I know Kotick is only worth seven billion dollars. He doesn't have that much in actual liquid capital sitting in a bank where he can swim in on his days off, most of Kotick's wealth probably lies in his shares in Activision, other stock options and property.

idk all the details here, but I do know that manual QA is a very low skill easily replaceable job. Nobody should fucking expect job security in manual QA. How do you do manual QA in gaming? Know how to game and use a ticket desk app... Its also often staffed by contract workers who technically work for the company but are usually let go once a project wraps up (New Warzone update for instance).
Of course though Jim has to complain about it as that's all he does, commenting about industry practices like hes some expert when all hes done with his life is complain about everything.
Just in general Im tired of all these snobby thin skinned pricks treating everything like its shit. Opinion overload on the internet, everything thinks their shit take is some new amazing thing when in reality most reactionary and review channels are ran by people completely devoid of talent and couldn't create something if their life depended on it.

That second one is the really important part. Had a friend who worked part time as a QA tester and he told me he would rarely work on the same game for more than a couple of months, simply because most games only need lots of QA for a few months around launch. Then they'd leave and find another game to work on.
