Any Brazilians here? The fuck happened to Gremio?
Horrible, horrible mismanagement of resources. Same shit as Cruzeiro, and maybe the same shit that will happen to my São Paulo. Imagine spending God knows how much for reinforcements that don't deliver, and undergo a revolving door of coaches to salvage your season, only for everything go to naught.

In similar fashion, Vasco da Gama is gonna spend a second year in Série B. Last week, they had to beat their in-city rivals Botafogo in order to remain with at least slight chances to be promoted. They lost 4x0. At home. We are talking about teams with huge fanbases and several national and international titles under their wing. Imagine Tottenham or Atletico de Madrid getting relegated. Those are near equivalents to Grêmio and Vasco's cases.

Are some of the boards down there corrupt? Stealing money and the like? Or are they just really bad at managing a club with their buying and selling of players and paying stupid wages?

I don't know how things operate down in South America and I don't want to come off as rude, it's just staggering to see a club like Gremio relegated. I won't pretend to be big into football outside of Europe but I know a bit about football on a global scale when it comes to big clubs and all that. Took me by surprise when I saw that.

You bet there's both at the same time happening to some degree at pretty much every club ever down here. At least it is so in Brazil, where the famous Gérson's Law is the way we go ahead in life. Money laundering schemes, state and national federation bribes to overturn in-field decisions, betting scandals, you name it. Since most clubs are forbidden to be operated as "companies" in the strict sense, the administrators du jour are free to spend the money they get from the national federation's subsidies, ticket and merch sales however the fuck they want. Only a few exceptions, such as Palmeiras and RB Bragantino don't do that, mostly because they don't want to piss off their huge financial backers with lax decisions. IIRC, Red Bull had to use a legal loophole in order to "acquire" RB Bragantino. And it shows in their overall performance: those are two of the best teams in the championship.

In the last 20 years, we saw about 40 different clubs playing in the top national division. Only three of those never got relegated: Flamengo, São Paulo, and Santos. Everybody else has played at least one year in Série B. Grêmio, for instance, may get their third relegation. First one was in 1991, and second one was in 2004.

USMNT with another Dos a Cero vs Mexico.

I'm loving the table right now.

Mexico keeps trotting out Memo Ochoa’s goofy ass in goal. I would have disowned him from the Mexican National Team after the 7-0 humiliation by Chile in the Copa America a few years ago.

It's great not having complacent bums like Bradley and Altidore anymore (Pulisic must be especially happy to have better teammates...). A 2-0 in Azteca would be beautiful but even a draw would be fantastic. Hopefully by then qualification is already pretty secure.

lol @ "L tri". Canada might be the kings of CONCACAF after all...

Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich is unvaxxed and the media is not happy with it.

He raised 7 million dollars to help people affected by the pandemic, but now refuses to take the jab. 4 other players at Bayern, all alleged to be black, have also refused to take the jab but only Kimmich has been named for certain as having not taken it citing heart problem concerns. Bavaria is implementing new rules that may affect Kimmich being able to play / stay at team hotels.

Endlessly funny to me how every American Chelsea fan I encounter online is usually some ultra-liberal/leftist while almost every English Chelsea fan I encounter is right-wing.

Just tell them that the National Front used to openly sell their magazine in the Shed End (not even Millwall put up with that) and watch the cognitive dissonance in real-time
