So bought EA Play to try the beta, game feels soulless cause it is.

Seems Battlefield 4 will around much much longer, hell BFV is better then 2042. But I wasn't expecting anything good with 2042, so its not surprising, same song and dance just more woke this time around. Also people think its gonna improve from this beta, this shits the full game, they've only done this on every title ever launched.

This is honestly what I expected since they announced it. Seems like BF 2 Modern Combat is going to remain the best one.

I was told the gunplay was fun and graphically it's solid, but I'll be trying it out on (inferior last-gen) console later so I'm not exactly running recommended specs. Will give my impressions then.

Actually apparently last gen has a better experience right now with the smaller map and player count.

Got early access through GamePass Ultimate (not preordering thanks to Battlefield V being a fuckup, and I didn't preorder that one either), and I can't get past the fucking user agreement screen. I've reset the thing five times and scrolled through the slow text for each section, and the option to agree is still greyed out.

Is this a taste for how the game will turn out? People give COD Vanguard shit, but at least I could play that beta.

EDIT: Finally made it through, the map feels way too spaced out and makes 128 players feel quaint.

BF2042 looks like Battlefield 4 with more stuff on the screen. The natural weather effects pushed in marketing appears to be a gimmick at best, a resource hog at worst.

It's also a bit hard to see the enemy too.
The game so far seems to run better than BFV. I've noticed that they've added the 2 types of sprint from MW 2019. The hit registration is a bit weird, sometimes it looks like I'm doing no damage on an enemy but I get killed with one shot.

Not only is the super sprint from the latest CODs in the game, but so is the tactical reloads (reloading while ADS).

I'm not knocking the game since those are good additions, but it puts the rivalry between the two into perspective.

Yeah, the game feels more like 4 than it does V. Still not confident in DICE sticking the landing, so I'm waiting it out.

Have played about 2 hours so far, generally I'm enjoying the experience and having fun, but I do have issues.

I can't tell if this is purely a beta thing, or a forever thing, but having to setup my attachments every match is very annoying. It's also disappointing that each gun only has 2/3 attachments per slot. Again, hoping that's a beta thing.

The game is buggy as fuck. EA already said they've ironed all of this out, but I'm still apprehensive about how buggy this is, at least visually.

Weather is nice when it's active, and should probably be active 60/70% of the time instead of the current 50%.

I don't like conquest. It's not a map type for me, I much prefer rush and it's a huge bummer that only conquest is available.

Looking for a Warzone replacement so I pre-ordered and got in. Played a few hours. Overall impressed with the graphics but there are glitches (helicopters halfway sunk into roofs, parachutes lingering around at ground level for several seconds, etc). Game play seems okay, I never played BF before but have played a ton of Warzone/Resurgence. Controls are so similar they will probably capture casuals like me.

I very much like the idea of swapping attachments during gameplay, but its current implementation is busted (Xbox). I keep tapping on the d-pad to get a different scope, but sometimes it changes another attachment or doesn't do anything. It's impossible for me to get the combination that I want, anyone else have problems?

I really don't like this map, it's way too big to service 128 players. I've had more deadtime than I had in past BF titles.

PlayStation has a similar bug where if you change your underbarrel attachment, it switches your scope to the last one available. Too many times I've forgotten this and entered a gun fight with a high zoom scope at close range.

Yeah, I just can't have faith in this game having a good launch if something like that is fundamentally broken.

In comparison, I had no issues like that with the Vanguard or Infinite betas. DICE needs to step their game up.

I mean, this shits really a demo. It will launch almost as it is now, least 343 launches games that run smoothly (much excluding MCC when it first launched) but 4 and 5 ran like butter, just imo aren't proper halo games. But yea, 2042 is just CoD warzone but Chinese discount version.

Are there going to be more guns in the game than in the beta?

One type of each feels a bit shitty and simplified.

Having spent more time with the game today, something absolutely needs to be done about the specialists. The fact that I can't tell the difference between an ally and an enemy leads to way more confusion than there should be. Having multiple players look the same works for something like Warzone because I can instantly identify that they're not the 1/3 people on my team and just open fire. Huge teams makes it way too ambiguous and the tiny blue dot above peoples heads is NOT enough.

This beta has been really disappointing so far. Spawning into a tornado and getting carried across the map was kind of funny, but I haven't seen any other impact from the environment. I don't even know if the rocket firing off is supposed to do anything. On the Xbox Series X I'm getting a lot of weird visual glitches. Guns don't feel like they have any impact. To me, the movement also seems really weird. I can come across a guy standing still, open fire on him from his side or behind, then all of a sudden the other player takes off in a sprint or starts side stepping in a way that I can't track with the controller. I'm terrible at shooters, so it's possible this is a me problem, but the speed of movement from a standstill just feels... off. But my biggest complaint is...

I guess I missed where this was supposed to be a hero shooter or something? I was confused when I first loaded into a match and the loadouts were named people rather than "assault", "medic", etc. They don't have a clear visual design that tells you what you're up against like in Team Fortress 2, and at the engagement ranges in Battlefield that wouldn't even matter. There do not appear to be any restrictions on loadouts for the characters. There doesn't seem to be a point to specialists. Let me make my own character instead. Sell cosmetics to people or whatever. This doesn't seem that hard.

Is the d-pad working for you? That was my first thought but nothing happened. I eventually figured out that the face buttons were what changed it. They correspond to the four corners, so the Y button toggles the sights, B the magazines, A the under barrel attachments, and X the barrels. If you change the under barrel attachment, you have to go back and reselect the sights, but that otherwise seems to work.
