Can anyone see what's wrong with this? Considering she hasn't seen Matt in a while she has bumped fupas with some one.

"My life!"

No, Kailyn. What actually happens in that movie is that Ariel is unsatisfied with her material objects and wants to explore human life. So she uses her legs to go find a man that would fight for her. And then happily ever after, they would marry and have a daughter...

Well, Kailyn has the married and daughter part down. Unfortunately, I think Kailyn would have to keep her mouth shut like Ariel did (among other things) in order to for everything else to happen.

If Kai is looking to move out onto her own, how is she going to support Gracie and pay for all the necessities? Even if she's on disability and the rent is covered(do they? I'm not sure on those specifics), I don't see Kai just growing up out of nowhere and putting her daughter first. Not when there's Wet'n'Wild Orchid lipsticks to buy.

I want to know how she expects to afford an apartment in Virginia on just her tugboat alone. If she's looking in northern Virginia, semi-close to Bowie, a one bedroom apartment can run close to $1200/month. If she looks farther out she might be able to find something more reasonable, but public transportation isn't as good as it is in NoVA. And we all know Kai's not gonna learn to drive.

Godspeed, Gracie.

I really doubt Kai knows what it actually costs to live on her own. Does she even buy her own groceries or anything? Like a lot of people don't know what groceries cost until they have to start buying them completely on their own, and Kai being Kai I can't see her having any idea of budgeting for household expenses.

I have some weirdly specific knowledge of Virginia's section 8 housing (free housing). The way it worked when I lived in Virginia was that if you were a single mom with a kid (even better if it's a baby) and basically homeless, you could get an apartment in possibly less than a month after applying for aid. You can also get food stamps (WIC is different), but TANF is harder to get. The apartments range depending on where you are, but I lived in Stafford and you could get anywhere from a 1 bed/1bath to a 3 bed/1 full bath and half bath 2 floor apartment, depending on what you needed. If you don't have a kid or are a single male, you're pretty SOL, and if you have an older kid/not in immediate danger of becoming homeless/almost anything else aside from completely disabled, you could sit on that waiting list for a MINIMUM of 6 months.

I was staying with a friend and helping out with the kids for a few months, and even as someone who wasn't related to them, I could apply to their "account" for foodstamps and they would get more money to cover another person. I only knew of 1 single male that lived there, and he only initially got in because he had a young daughter at the time. KaiKai and Malt could take Gracie and get housing, but you have to reapply for the housing/foodstamps/TANF yearly, and unless both of them were evaluated and found to be unable to work (physically or mentally) then they would probably get the boot after the first year.

It's not a fun life, and it's not meant to be permanent.

That is tricky but not impossible if you look around the outskirts of the DC Metro system and are willing to deal with roomates. I was living for a year near Alexandria in a shared house near a Metro stop for ~$700/month. The upshot is that public transportation in the DC area is good enough that you can get around without a car.

The worst part about Kai wanting to move out isn't because she wants a stable life or wants real independence to feel good about herself and adulthood: she wants to live on her own because she doesn't like her parents telling her what to do and suddenly not spoiling her. She and Maltt have to be corralled and separated and directed by the parents like a couple of teenagers because the whole family realized having a baby does not make the problems in your life perfect - what a shock. Kai and Maltt themselves don't even bother seeing this and are making their families' hair turn grey. They don't have an ounce of responsibility in their bones and Kai doesn't like knowing people want her to stop being delusional and just put some effort into raising and noticing her own daughter.

If Kai really wanted to turn her life around, knock off her beauty bullshit, give Matt and ultimatum or at least not treat his disorders like the equivalent of him leaving the toilet seat up, and focused on Gracie, I would be applauding her. But then Kai wouldn't be a topic on this forum if she had realized things like this before and tried making a better and respectable life for herself.

Her hugbox with her parents taking care of everything seems to be quickly crumbling, and while I'm glad she seems to finally be realizing it, MW is even more in the wrong. She let Kai become this way and never once taught her "you are at the age where you need to do this for yourself." Mama Wilcher also seems appallingly toxic with what she told Kai, but then again I never trust much of what Kai says so her mom could have been just blowing up out of pure tension and Kai wanted to exaggerate it - but we've also heard how MW acts with the phone calls and her quirks about how to raise Gracie, so I could easily believe she really is saying those awful things to Kai, with Kai using it for pity points instead of thinking "me and my daughter don't need this."

I hope she does move out and get a taste of what normal people deal with even if it's just for a month before coming back to mommy cause she can't figure out how to pay bills online.

No matter where Kai ends up, Gracie is the one who is ultimately going to suffer. Kai won't be able to do anything herself and on top of that she has an infant.

Maybe she'll try to sell her make up collection to raise money. Anyone up for four year old lipstick? Only used once!
