Did we ever find out why his eyeballs are slowly melting? Some sort of autoimmune issue?

They've been rotting since 2015 (sauce). His body is devouring his own eyes, and he has to take immunosuppressants to keep that from happening. However, this also leaves him deathly vulnerable to diseases normal people could fight. He said it will likely last him the rest of his life.
