To be fair, everyone's been talking about Iran being the next theater since the 2000s. And they've been funding and supplying proxies all over the Middle East. Doesn't necessarily justify what's going on right now but they've been pissing off everyone for decades and the regime is a huge supporter of terrorism around the world.

MAGA isn't a monolith for sure but there's enough true believers that it does look like some kind of religious movement. Which, to be honest, a lot of people treat politicians like saints and the parties like a fundie church.

George W. Bush screwed us with the Patriot Act, Obama ran on the promise of ending it and decided not to fix it, and now DJT is bringing us back to 2003. Hooray!

Fair enough. But if Israel is so strong, such a heroic beacon of freedom in the middle east, why not let them deal with this? Bibi's been screeching about the Iran menace for how many decades now? He's so strong, the iron dome's so great, they're god's chosen people. Why don't they deal with it? Why US? And why does Trump feel entitled to drag the whole world along with it? Making demands and saying that nobody wants to help him, when it's him that constantly shits on his own allies saying that he doesn't need anyone and America comes first?

Iran would be a natural US ally in the region if national security policy was sane though. Its enemies are the Sunni terror sponsors and Israel. There have been basically 0 Iranian backed terror attacks in the west, there have been hundreds from the Saudis.

If the real goal of US foreign policy in the ME was dealing with the terrorist problem, it would be bombing Riyadh rn.

Fair enough, but Riyadh didn't hold embassy employees hostage for 444 days, the Islamic Republic did. Riyadh is supposedly an ally but at the same time there are state funded religious schools there that espouse Wahhabi tenets, which is usually the form of Islam that is associated with terrorism.

It's a complicated mess.
