Under the Shah, the legal age of marriage for girls was raised to 18. After the Revolution, the Islamic republic first lowered it to 15 and then to 9. Even though it was raised to 13 in 2002 (and there are reports of the legal affairs committee wanting to lower it to 9 again), it is still possible for parents to marry off their daughter at an even younger age with the approval of a court judge. For boys, it is 15 and used to be 20 before the Revolution, and they too can be married off earlier. Khomeini himself married his wife Khadijeh Saqafi when he was 29 and she was 13 or 14.

I would love for Calla to enlighten me how a cabal of Islamic mullahs that explicitly went out of their way to make it possible for 9-year-olds to marry isn't a "pedophilic rape cult".

This was the hoped result of the 12 days war/Midnight hammer, but the protestors weren't organized or ready back in June. There was some hope of something going down while we had the Ford parked outside of Iran curb-stomping the Hoothis, but nothing happened and the US redeployed to yeet Maduro.
The protests went fever pitch in Decemeber/January and seemingly caught everyone off guard. Supporting these protests is why Trump moved more than just a flight of B-2s and escorts into position.

If the protestors start taking territory, we will see more US action. If they don't, Trump just brings the planes and crews back home after giving Iran another sack tap.
