A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I don't really care about how stunned animals are what I do care about is the infestation of culturally alien people in the country I live in.

I would like to see Halal meat outlawed, or at least clearly labelled - so people can choose not to buy it and let market forces do their thing to ultimately restrict access to these foods and make them more expensive, making life just that bit more difficult and this country a bit less welcoming.

Every little helps.

The recent Green win is a nothing burger (a constituency made up of constituencies that has only ever voted Labour has flipped Green), and regarding the total state of the UK I've already shared with Americans here why it's only a matter of time — which is the main demoraliser because, yeah, we're a few years away from anything happening, but I personally see a forecast that's only positive.

This is going to result in dramatic articles in the WSJ, Financial Times, etc. but not economic collapse or anything. It’s a good story for financial papers since it combines large scale fraud, immigration, a hot escape, insolvency proceedings, etc. But don’t expect this to lead to the collapse of Barclays or something.

I know I'm clashing with the choir, rather than preaching with it, but I really am firmly in the camp that Restore is an online first movement, I'm enjoying the kayfabe and the policy papers, but I think Restore, who play soft with BAMEdenoch, and aren't willing to act like a ruthless vanguard will just be relegated to a pathetic meme party.

All of it, as I always remind people mudslimes are about one double digit of the total pop but in their hives they concentrate, combined with their tribal patterns it makes them a solid bloc that can swing any number of particular constituencies, hence their extreme bribability; why wouldn't you bend over backwards for such a critical source of support. You can buy entire wards by shaking hands with just one greasy uncle where they don't even make up a plurality, this is the power of guaranteed solidarity.

Rural shires are largely immune to this thank god, but expect it to happen more often and more outrageously, as former Labour safe seats realign their interests.

Incest porn is basically harmless. Two ugly middle age porn stars pretending they're related isn't doing any one any harm any other type of porn isn't. And you can't ban anything this big on the internet any way so why even waste the ink writing it down? Porn is so incredibly common online even if you tried to remove it all it would have no impact. Like music piracy or weed. You can't properly police it so you make it so it's not a bigger problem than it needs to be. Get proper relationships going so boys don't rely on porn for fulfillment. Stop promoting online prostitution in the media. Show the negatives of it and promote the positives of a healthy life style. Men will still look, even at the rougher stuff but as long as it doesn't impact anything outside of their wanking leave it alone.

You can't regulate away problems like this. You can only offer better alternatives.

I :disagree: strongly because I believe that ideas are in fact dangerous, that is to say: there are in fact such a thing as bad thoughts (actual bad things that speak to deeper darkness,. I'm talking stuff like proclivity for crime/sexual attraction to children/not putting the basket back/pronouncing scone wrong etc). Nobody is immune to propaganda, you can be immunized by exposure to some extent, but not everybody can be expected to have the same level of resistance especially children/low IQ retards. That is to say; there is nothing positive about pornography, it creates nothing and it only acts, at best, to sate a demand that ideally should not be there, therefore there should be no half measures when it comes to the likes of cognitohazard such as incest porn.
Yeah "it'll always be there" but you can make the same (fallacious) argument for anything "bad", the only alternative should be a boot stomping into the face because it's just not something that should be tolerated, and I refuse to tolerate it.

Dear Colleagues,

The result in Gorton and Denton is deeply disappointing.

Instead of a Labour MP who can be a local champion delivering for Gorton and Denton alongside a Labour Government and a Labour mayor, the people of Gorton and Denton now have a representative who is more interested in dividing people than uniting them. We have to learn lessons from that, and we will.

I know this is a tough result for our movement but I still want to thank you for everything you did to support our brilliant candidate Angeliki Stogia. She did a fantastic job and Gorton and Denton deserved to have her as their MP.

We’ve seen the true colours of Zack Polanski’s Greens in this campaign. The Greens were able to capitalise on an endorsement from George Galloway to win over enough voters to push them over the line. Their willingness to welcome Galloway's divisive, sectarian politics is a sign that the Greens are not the harmless environmentalists they pretend to be, and their position on legalising all drugs shows how unstable this electoral coalition is. It cannot survive a general election campaign.

It hurts, but this is the kind of result that we have often seen parties of government face. In by-elections people can make their voice heard without risking a change of government. I get it: people are rightly impatient to see the change they voted for.

It’s my job to make sure that happens. And I’m working day in, day out to see it through.

Over the coming months, people will feel the benefit of the long-term decisions this government is taking. Look at the good economic news we’ve had in the past week: inflation and borrowing coming down, retail sales and business confidence rising, energy bills falling. And look at the policies that are going to make a difference in people’s lives in the coming months: the landmark Employment Rights Act, money off energy bills, the cruel two-child limit scrapped, more free breakfast clubs opening, Pride in Place funding coming through, NHS waiting lists continuing to fall. It will show what we’ve been saying from the outset of this year: the country is turning a corner. These are all Labour policies, putting Labour values into action - policies no other party would or could deliver.

The Greens may have won here, but they simply do not have the resources, the activist base or the local knowledge to replicate this victory across the country. We’ve seen that before. We’ve seen it with the Lib Dems, who have often won mid-term by-elections against both the Conservatives and Labour, but never been able to come close to winning nationally. We’ve seen it with George Galloway, who won two mid-term by elections but held neither of those seats in a general election.

We will continue to warn of the risk the Greens pose: the risk of extreme policies like legalising all drugs and pulling out of NATO that most voters strongly reject, and the risk of splitting the progressive vote so that Reform come through the middle.

The next election is too important to let that happen. It’s a fight we can win, and we’re going to win it.

I know it's an open secret the parties were implicitly courting foreigners and Muslims but now the Greens were just explicit about it and this has even upset Labour because it risks making the Muslim issue of how they vote in our elections one that is forced to be acknowledged.

This could have funny consequences for the political landscape if it becomes a big focus. The Greens highlighting the significance of the result and forcing Labour & Reform to downplay it in the exact same way — "Appealed to Muslims" — is already hilarious in of itself.

I don’t agree. It’s not about the thing existing bit about how accepted it is.
Normalisation of certain things shifts the Overton window. Very violent porn being so widely available and mainstream changes how people see violence and sex. The Nathalie donnoley case for example where the jury was asked to buy the fact she liked sex so rough the guy basically tortured her to death and he got a sentence of a few months. No jury thirty years ago would have accepted that. And no defence lawyer would try it. Now it’s oh well yeah I’ve seen that on pornhub so it’s real. People do t always know the difference - they say they do but in their lizard brains, they don’t.
Of course porn will always exist - humans are visually aroused among other things and we’ve got penis graffiti amd mural porn from pompeii. You’ll never get rid of it and maybe you shouldn’t, but it also shouldn’t be widely accepted as normal, or at least the weirder and more hardcore stuff shouldn’t. If we could go back thirty years or so to the point it wasn’t on every device, that’d be better.
I still think ‘semen altered images’ is a weird hill to die on.

As a horror movie enjoyer I would like to see more violent murder and incest in movies. The modern ones are too focused on wogs complaining about white people. But it is on every device and you can't stop that so you have to deal with it. I really wish women hadn't fucked up the fantasy genre of books. I would fucking love to be able to go into a WH Smiths and be able to pick up some decent Sci fi or Fantasy. To get into a distant world and have interesting ideas presented to me. But all I can buy is stupid women fucking animals, super natural creatures or aliens. I don't think those books being banned would help the situation any. I think we need to offer alternatives so sexual content isn't a primary driving factor in someone's life.

I'm not going to defend porn because it's disgusting stuff. But if you are worried about incest then your first line of defense is to restore the family. There is more incest committed by single mothered children than any other native group. If you don't know who your fucking Dad is and he's fucked half the estate then how the hell do you avoid inbreeding? Porn does change the perspective on sexual acts. But you also have to remember our grandparents would never have dreamed of giving a blowjob. The sexual revolution happened and then the silicon one happened and we have to deal with the consequences. And if that means you have to suffer the odd blowjob.. well I'm sorry sir but that's the cost of living in 2026.

Labour needs to pivot left but not in the "progressive" islamoqueer sense of giving houses to foreign browns and forcing your kids to crossdress.

They need to be socially conservative and reject all that, while pursuing policies that genuinely help working British people. Spend money on the NHS and schools. Provide quality vocational training. Focus on giving British people the skills to do the jobs we currently import people to do. Reward work at every level with services people can be proud of.

That way they can out-reform Reform while positioning themselves on the left.

Oh and make it illegal to charge for hospital car parking spaces.

I don’t think violent and hardcore porn should be normalised. It existed before smartphones, it’s not going away, but it wasn’t normalised.
You’re conflating ‘banning a thing’ with ‘changing society so it’s seen as weird and deviant.’
We’ve gone too far down the permissive slope, so now violent porn and werewolf ladyporn and trannies are all normal. Personally I dont think that’s good and it needs shoving so far back in the fucking closet they’re treading on fauns.
