What a stupid meme. These Akai MPC kits were used by Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Kanye West, and even John Mayer.

Capitalism rules.

This is a real banger that uses one of the later generations in this family.
I think that's a 3.5" floppy drive on the one in the picture. It's a real classic machine and you'd pay a lot for one in good condition these days.
