Huh. I'm only mildly surprised they didn't remaster Symphonia for like, the 4th time.

What? Don't tell me none of you could see them giving that one the Skyrim treatment...
Just curious which one would you'd perfer bamco to do, Symphonia remake, or prequel with Mithos, Kratos, Yuan and Martel's Story?
Don't understand chinese so can anyone tell me if they're adding some more story parts or anything other than QoL updates? This was my first Tales Game and i loved the cast.

Story could've been better, villians were good individually, but the big bad faction itself was as jrpg as it comes.

Seriously, that scene where the guards wanna kill a dog in front of a crying child because, and i'm paraphrasing, "happiness is an emotion, and emotion leads to chaos" made me laugh out loud. Really don't get where that came from considering neither Artorious nor the rest of the big bads are portrayed as that evil.

Man... Just realized i dipped out of this series after Zestiria and then Arise just kinda underwhelmed... But reading about Berseria makes me wanna pick it up again for a second playthrough, it's been a while.
As far as i can tell, it's just Qol and Graphics stuff.

There's nothing new story-wise. It gets minor QoL updates to make quest objectives even more obvious and the grade shop is available from the start instead of requiring a completed playthrough.

If you already own Berseria on PC or something where you can jack it up to 4K, there's no reason to buy the remaster.

From what I understand - the remaster largely exists for Switch owners and the Japanese (who, weirdly enough, don't have an official PC version in their region only PS4).

You should go check out the older games. Eternia is a personal favorite of mine, but Vesperia has a fairly recent release (definitely use a guide for this one, it has one annoying missables) and Symphonia on Steam can be tolerable thanks to the fan patches that fix some of the worst issues with it.

Alternatively - go check out Star Ocean Second Story R. Star Ocean is kind of like the cousin of Tales (Tri-Ace was originally formed from some of the devs that made Tales of Phantasia) and Second Story R is a phenomenally good remake of the best game in that franchise.

Honestly there are better entries that are widely available now. Graces is on all platforms, Destiny PS2 and Rebirth are finally in English, Vesperia is still Vesperia (even if I don't like it nearly as much as the Team Destiny entries imo). Zesteria, Arise, and Berseria are considered the worst entries in the series other than the incomplete Tales of the Tempest, so you can only go up from here.

Also Star Ocean Second Story R barely plays like a tales of game but it's still fun nonetheless.

Xillia is okay so far. I like the cast. Erin Fitzgerald having too much fun. Towns are unfortunately bland. My understanding is that everything is reused in 2 as well? Definitely has some of the best end battle scenes. Skits are fun too.

There's a severe lack of outfits. I think Berseria and Vesperia spoiled us all. Dare I ask what we get in 2? Iirc they cut a lot of JP only outfits due to licensing issues.

Crosspost from the JRPG Thread, the Remaster Project will continue on to 2026 so we might get some PS2 games instead of remasters of basically new games.

Abysssbros and xillia2ers injected with hopium

I guess I can't blame them for remastering the good games in the series instead of making new ones because Arise was the biggest piece of shit ever.
You remided me of seeing a bunch of people shitting on how arise handled that part where Law stops Rinwell from killing Almeidrea, and then somehow it proceeded to devolve into stuff about Charlie Kirk for some reason.

I wonder if that says anything about Arise.

The only discourse I heard about arise got drowned out by 78 pounds of shield maiden ass meat.

I will give Arise some credit it tried to tell a story that was and still is lowkey radical. Opressed people once freed should focus on improving their lives instead of just getting even. But the execution was terrible. All the moon people apart from the ones in our party sucked. They should've showed that the common moon person was also suffering under the Lords.

How is ToP X? I've heard it was a full on remake, adding in tons of new content and updating the story a lot, even adding in a new party member.

That's more or less it. The gameplay is completely cleaned up and more in line with later 2D entries. Most importantly, there's no longer any game freeze when spells and certain artes are being cast. Up until I started playing Narikiri Dungeon X myself (not translated yet, but still a very fun Tales of game with the Job system) I had no clue they just added another party member. I've uploaded some gameplay clips that I shamelessly stole off Xitter and apparently there are Mystic Artes in the remake too. I might do a replay of Phantasia now.

Fuck dude i only started the PS1 version a while ago.

I wonder if i should keep playing or drop it and go for Cross version now...

Also its kinda funny how some of the humanoid enemy sprites are the same small chibi ones from the PS1 version while some enemies got more normal proportion sprites.
