Interesting to see the thumbnail A/B testing in real time. The thumbnail you got I would have scrolled past if it were in my feed. The thumbnail I got would have had me clicking "Don't recommend channel" in a heartbeat.

I found this while looking for stuff related to the new steam machine launch.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=mhIHNtB8Fi4Linus really knew how to raise nigger cattle, but his nigger cattle at least knows you should benchmark an LLM on a computer explicitly marketed for AI usage.
I don't think anyone pointed out here but Linus was a framework investor so for khantext: he's directly talking shit about Linus and making fun of him and using tech review videos as a medium for doing so.

Normally people write faggy YouTube comments or compile .docx dossiers about ex-lovers, the fact he's doing it using Linus' own medium (tech review vids) is entertaining as fuck.

As far as I'm concerned he's the only ex-LTT faggot with balls.

Every time I come back to this thread, Jake's video has a different thumbnail and title.

Are all YouTubers just conditioned to do this incessantly now? It's always felt like a sign of insecurity to me. I'd love to be able to see how many times some particular videos have been changed. I know LTT won't have the top score, but they've got to be up there.

Maybe he reads the thread? </greersperging>

For real though, this new light-blue one is probably the first I may have actually clicked on if it were to organically show up in my feed. He actually managed to not look like a ginger ogre in it.

There's probably some kind of psychological aspect to it though. If I see the same video stuck in my recommendations after scrolling past it for a week, I might finally break and hit the "do not recommend this video" button, but if that same video has three different thumbnails over that week then I might not realize that it's been the same video this whole time and end up clicking on it day 8.

I wonder if they have any writers who can ask (real) Linus any interesting question, get some funfacts, trivia, whatever. Or they'll build a pc acting like putting RAM into a slot is some arcane whichcraft shit for 10 minutes.

I guess "playing the algorithm" is all you have when you can't make a video stand on its own merits. Fuck every clickbaiting shit thumbnail video ever.

A/B testing is one of the biggest cancers in computing at the moment. Even Windows doesn't have consistent updates across devices now because every system is assigned randomly. I'm convinced it's a scam that wastes resources for negligible differences, and satisfies developers who think they're doing something when in reality they are wasting their time.

Its worse than that, its actively indicative of a hostile activity. When you release a feature because the users want the feature, you just release it and off it goes. When you feel the need to A/B test it, then your saying "They don't want/need it, I'm looking for the version that gives me [company] the best outcome". Whether that's the least user annoyance or rejection, the most artificial engagement, or whatever other behavior your actually seeking, A/B Testing is about the response, not the change. And that should tell you all you need to know about the priorities.
