Anyone have any info on the algorithm thing he's talking about? Are there any stats on his channel?

He published his metrics in the crashout stream, here's my analysis of that (part 2). He complains about three things with the algorithm (4 if you count his alleged shadowban).
  1. His videos are "restricted" so that anyone in restricted mode (Youtube version of Google safe search) cannot see them. Restricted mode is not on by default (at least in America, may be different in England and Brazil), you need to opt-in, which only adds a browser cookie to your current session, and is not an account setting. Restricted videos are still recommended by Youtube, especially to subscribers, but also to others in general that the algorithm believes would be interested. Restricted mode has existed since at least 2018 (Archive), so restricted mode cannot be the cause of his channel death.
  2. Allegedly, Youtube changed how views are counted recently. Coby has never understood the Youtube algorithm, so he is very susceptible to misinformation about it. Youtube has had a watch time threshold for counting views for a very long time, and if it changed at all, it was merely a slight tweak and cannot be responsible for a huge drop in viewership, engagement, watch time, or revenue. Also, I've heard that this was only a change to Youtube Shorts (no idea if that's correct).
  3. He thinks it might be because of the new hype feature, and his channel isn't being hyped. Youtube has said that the hype feature doesn't affect how a video is promoted in the algorithm, it is purely a leaderboard (like the old trending tab) that is only accessible through the Youtube mobile app.
  4. As far as shadowbanning is concerned, Coby believes that he has been shadowbanned by Youtube ever since Mauler did a hitpiece on him on EFAP. You can look at his views, he has consistently gotten 100k+ views on his videos since then until very recently, which is exactly what you would expect from a channel of his size (interestingly, one of his videos that failed to perform was his HBO's The Last of Us is Getting Better which only got 53k views 2 years ago, which is his new normal, contrary to his statement that his TV show videos always do well). In his published metrics from the crashout stream, it's also verifiable that Youtube pushed out his Fallout season 2 video to at least 360k people depending on how clickthrough rate is calculated (whether it counts all clicks, or only clicks that count as views)

I think the idea was that the appreciation thread was going to be milked for content from the defenders. The problem is that all the regulars who were in that thread are now alogs or have left, so now the threads just feel the same. There should be a merge or sunset the appreciation thread for prosperity.

I'm not sure I agree. My issue is that the grift wars subforum is not very active. Apart from the MATHI thread most threads here only get 1-3 new posts a day.

When Synth had his crashout last week most of the discussion and mockery was happening in the appreciation thread not here.

Another thing is that I suspect a lot of the former Synthcels turned critics who are active in the appreciation thread will not move to this thread if that one is closed because this thread had been extremely hostile to them in the past which will cause the discussion to die down even more as they move off site.
 
My opinion is that this thread should be sunsetted, the other thread should be moved to a cow board, and the OP should be rewritten. Synth reads the other thread, not this one.

I was actually thinking something really similar. Maybe I or someone else who's active in that thread can reach out to Goycast and request ownership of the thread.

If he agrees we can copypasta the op from this thread or write a new one and that one can be the lolcow/discussion whatever thread.

I don't keep up much with Colby, so sorry if I'm retreading old ground, but his MGS3 review left me wondering: does he put any substantive thought into his reviews?

Does everything go through an anti-woke filter in his head and then he vomits it out onto a review? I get the vibe that if he sees something he doesn't like, instead of taking the time to think out the issue, he inserts phrases like "woke" and "Marry Sue" to justify his opinion.

I guess that's easier than explaining why the Boss should have a dick and balls.

He’s too busy fantasizing about women with penis to put thought into things and he just browses /v/ enough times for a general consensus of what to make his reviews and thoughts about. He should really just title his videos “What did we think about this vidya and various thoughts about women who have penises”

and instinctively knew Husky was the one saying it without looking at the name

this level of noticing would get you banned in a modern synth stream.

He's said on many occasions he doesn't script his videos, so it seems he is just speaking from stream of consciousness, saying whatever comes to mind until he feels he's covered all important points or ran out of things to say. So no, I don't think he puts substantive thought into his reviews. KCD was probably the only time that happened.
