MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) -- An active investigation is underway after an NYPD officer and civilian were shot in Midtown, Manhattan, according to police sources.

They say the officer and civilian were shot on the street at East 52nd Street and Park Avenue by a suspect who fled into an office building.

There is currently a lockdown at the office building at 345 Park Ave.

It's unclear the extent of the victims' injuries.

Officials are asking people to avoid areas near East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue due to police activity.

No further details have been provided.

The investigation is ongoing.
