Its a muddling of terms. HL2 HDR is real HDR, but only internal HDR, and its what was used throughout the 7th gen till now, the internal buffers...

I played the game back on PS2 and indeed as much as I loved it, the slowdowns were an issue. Decided to test it on an emulator.
