>Take for example Xenoblade it was a Nintendo exclusive published by Nintendo but it never gained any sort of popularity until they marketed the Pyra smash bullshit.

Uh, no? Xenoblade Chronicles 2 reached 2 million sales long before Pyra was put in Smash.
The entire xenowhatever games are overrated anime trash. If I wanted to spend a half hour to an hour at a time watching anime cutscenes, I'd watch an anime. Seriously, i remember renting xenosaga 2 or whatever it was on ps2 made it like halfway through the intro. I had like 10 minutes controller time, and like 3 hours play time, that shit's just no...that's not a video game, it's a movie. Xenogears was marginally better as in it allowed you to actually play the game. But seriously, that whole series is a glorified shitty anime series that pretends to be a video game.

So... you don't like cinematic cutscenes then?

You're quoting a Sony fanatic who shouldn't post in this thread about other fanatics frankly.

What about Metal Gear Solid 4?

It held the world record for the longest cutscene.
Dunno, never played it. I don't mind a short cutscene here or there, some story exposition or whatever, but, i expect most of my play time to be actively controlling the player character. If a game is comprised of mostly moving a bit, doing some qte's and watching pretty rendered videos, why am I wasting my time on this shit?

Most video game stories are the equivalent of B movies at best. This whole story and cinematic shit is so much bullshit. The best games have interactive stories or minimal stories required to get the job done, fun play mechanics, and let you have control of how the story unfolds. Why even bother playing a video game if not for that? That's pretty much the difference between a game and non-interactive media. If you want to passively watch something happen rather then interact with it, watch a TV show or a movie, if you want something you can interact with, let the story take a back seat and let your skills and imagination tell the story, play a video game.

Because it's made by Kojima, which is a good enough reason for this guy to buy it.

And the fact that this shit is in there, for some reason.

I mean, i guess, but I don't own modern consoles because I own a real computer and I just don't care. So no I probably won't. If a game's fun I'll play it, otherwise, Meh, i've wasted so many years of my life playing video games, I don't need to bother with some shit i'm really not interested in. It's all the same shit. If I find it fun, great, I'll spend time on it, if it's not, i could care less how many other people think it's awesome. I just really don't care any more, video games are just another mindless distraction from reality.

2 million for a first party Nintendo game that's an exclusive is pretty low especially when the ceiling is around 30 million.

Link's awakening sold around 5 million and that was a minimal effort remaster. The was a fuckload of overstock from Xenoblade 2 because the CE was selling for around 50-70 dollars new since it was released and it never rose above the MSRP until the smash announcement.

The HD remaster of 1 (which was originally pretty hard to get since it was a Gamestop exclusive on the wii and then later needed a specific 3ds model) did less than 2 did for lifetime sales. So there wasn't a general rise in interest in the series, just a specific installment.

Mind you we're talking about a series that has the same size and scope as Zelda which has reached heights of 20+ million copies sold. Pokemon sells 10 million for a dogturd with a pikachu face on it.

If you want to factor in Xenogears, it's technically been going on for longer than a series like Monster Hunter, so it's not like it's pedigree wasn't established.

You're quoting a Sony fanatic who shouldn't post in this thread about other fanatics frankly.
Lol, I know the Nintendo fans pretty well. They generally won't take to RPGs unless there's a marketing push or a familiar face slapped on it. That's why I don't want my favorite genre to be tied around the switch's neck. I want to see the genre grow and prosper and all these retards want is Disney Star Wars Tier Nostalgia.

I bought a fucking wii-u for Xenoblade X and Monster Hunter 3u(I even bought 3u for the 3ds) that's certainly more financial dedication to actual games than most of the switchlets have shown, where most of their shit is merch garbage with actual game purchases being secondary.

Come to think of it, it's just Nintendo's fanbase that doesn't wanna consider the Xenoblade games as part of the same series as Xenogears and Xenosaga, isn't it?
There's actual legal shit for Xenogears and Xenosaga, so that's the main cause for separation. KOS-MOS and TELOS appearing in 2 had to have the permission of Bandai-Namco. Xenogears is strictly owned by Square Enix.

@Marissa Moira
lmao I was wondering if you were gonna tell me that 2 million sales wasn't anything. I don't care how well it sold compared to something from Nintendo's second largest IP, 2 million sales is quite good for any JRPG. And my point still stands: Smash Bros did not contribute that much to its total sales.
I'm pretty sure Smash did because the HD Remake of 1 came out after 2 was out and sold less. They didn't want 1 because it had no new amiibos and new new special videos with the characters. That and the price charts skyrocketed quickly after the pyra reveal. Both the special edition of 2 and the regular release still are priced higher on the secondary market than 1. The physical copy of Torna is the most expensive in the whole series. And while that does have content for 2, it was printed in far less numbers and that's why it's higher in price.

From a quality standpoint if fucking retard games like Splatoon can hit 12 million sales and that started on the wii-u of all things, there's zero reasons why xenoblade shouldn't be pulling double digit sales in the millions. Xenoblade has always been made with the intention of reaching the high watermark of whatever system it was put on. Literally every single game in the series is a better designed open world game than Breath of the Wild. Xenoblade is probably the only Nintendo series with any actual ambition and care put behind it.

So yes 2 million is pathetic considering that the fucking trash heap of Sword and Shield sold over 20 million copies. Like come the fuck on, the sales numbers should be reversed considering Gamefreak's legendary ineptitude.

The point is unless Xenoblade is shoved in the face of the Nintendo consumers, they willingly won't bite because all the series hallmarks are shit that's generally alien to them on what they associate with Nintendo.

Sure he's a Sonygger but at least he usually refrains from posting complete nonsense
He's also often extremely dishonest as well. It's less a waste of time to argue with a wall rather than with a brainwashed & mentally ill console warrior like him.
He also would be taken more seriously if he wasn't so keen to defend Sony at every possible opportunity here.

Lol dude, you've even said it yourself that the Nintendies won't go outside their mario plastered safety zone and adhere to new series.

To put it in comparison Nier currently has a higher sales record between two titles than Xenoblade has in 4. Even if you were to merge all remasters together as a single unit with their original version, you're still looking at a set of bizarre robot games with ugly dad and a gay character as the series mascot, somehow beating what's normal and traditional JRPG faire with Xenoblade.

Again my whole argument was that Nintendo fags won't branch out unless it has multiple stamps of company approval from on high. This is just how they've always been.

Still Xenoblade is a 'hard to get into game' for the average gamer. It's a decently complex RPG and the world isn't linear (i mean it is but its easy to get lost) and 2 only made that situation worse. Xenoblade is more like a 'rare trophy' style game vs 'everyone has played this game'.

As for the folks complaining 'its like watching an anime'. RPG's are popular because of emphasis on story/team management as a feature. Xenoblade 2 took this to a different level because of the customization involved with the various 'Blades' that you come across creating interactions in the world and combat. The loot roll system (when not tied to money) is a great way to encourage grinding and making it worth something other than leveling. Now you have games like Genshin Impact which have made 'loot roll' tied directly to how much money you spend. It honestly makes me laugh how Genshin Impact is basically Xenoblade 2 + real money.

@gaystoner

I wouldn't really say that xenoblade is that hard to get in to for any of the installments. It's made some questionable choices like X's quasi online system which was tied to rare drops and 2's gatcha mechanic and having blades separated by different leveling systems(i.e. having blades tied to the merc system while others were not). But every game had a means of getting to max level rather quickly. X had the bug mob you killed in the tree and 2 had the Kirkin you pushed off the bridge until you were high enough to attack Dinosaurs which put you at max level. Torna had you fight an elite mob that spawns near the start which you grinded until you were high enough to fight the flying fish which were end game level

Torna I would say mechanically functions the best, every blade leveled the same and the party was more manageable. They trimmed a lot of useless stuff out and you were able to get proper party builds together quicker since the number of total characters was smaller.

Considering that spergs still sperg about pokemon team builds it's less involved than that.

Xenoblade's primary appeal is also exploration. You can freely wander around and run into high level enemies, find stuff hidden away and the world while huge isn't filled with busywork or stuff that wastes your time. Every installment has justified it's open world's size. X especially since there were so many exclusive places to explore, on foot, in a robot, and while flying.

Xenoblade is primarily why I wasn't all that thrilled with BOTW, it's open world in comparison was filled with tedious bullshit and most of the locals were very bland and uninteresting.

@Marissa Moira Ok, let me put it this way. Splatoon and Mario are family friendly normie trash. JRPGs are a niche of a niche, and are usually too complex (ie. boring) for little kids.

For a game to be considered a Platinum hit on the PS1, a game had to sell 400,000 units.

Did Xenoblade sell well? If it sold 2 million, probably. Did 40yo consoomers who hate anime complain about it? Probably. Getting into a dick measuring contest about sales seem (to me) to be completely immaterial to that, unless Nintendrones are complaining about it.
