The Onion article is great, but Pride parades didn't and probably still don't peak many normies that didn't dislike gays already, because they are linked to a specific time and place and are therefore easily avoidable. Anyone who lives in a large-ish city is used to avoiding certain places at certain times if they want to avoid seeing debauchery, and since most of that debauchery is actually heterosexual it's hard to pin it all on the gays.

This new TRA stuff is different because it is determined to push into normie spaces. Invasion of these spaces is actually an inextricable part of the movement, because of the constant need for tranny validation. A gay man is still certain of being a gay man even if no normie on earth knows or cares that he sucks dick; an AGP must have his 'feminine' identity validated by every person he sees or talks to or his identity falls apart. I don't think this stuff about pushing gender on young children is an attempt at grooming (although it will be taken advantage of by predators, anything that involves this kind of secrecy will be) so much as an attempt to get 'trans women are women!' normalized and accepted as quickly as possible, by spreading it through schools.
