Does calling a salad a "bowl" make it more exciting and appealing to fatties or something?
Before Jen privated her videos, I'd been watching her keto journey recipes for the first time. I've been getting back into them and it really kills me how bad she is at cooking. A lot of today's video was just slicing and assembling — which is fine — but slicing and assembling ultra-processed foods seems to be the overwhelming bulk of Jen's repertoire. The way she talks about the texture of the pickled peppers as though they'd actually pickled them or it was a food that had been carefully cooked for texture rather than a processed food that had been desiccated in an air fryer (along with the pre-cooked bacons) is telling.
When she does cook a meal in the conventional sense of cooking, it's no better. I was recently watching her old chili video. At one point I heard a sound that suggested to me that the base of the chili was sticking to the pan and burning. I looked up just as she stirred it and, sure enough, the food and sauce pan were flecked with black scorch marks. (She also said she was simmering when she was sauteing, but whatever).
She just continued cooking it and stirred the scorched base into the rest of the chili. She probably reasoned that the part of the base that hadn't been touching the bottom of the pan was fine after all.
She also does things like cram frozen Brussels sprouts and thawed chicken breast covered in sugar-laden salsa onto a jam-packed sheet and shove them into an oven without realizing how that will impact cooking time, temperature and doneness.
By the time this came out, predictably, part of it was overdone, part of it was cooked through and the sugars in the salsa and the spices on the sprouts had scorched.
Look, we all have to learn the skill of cooking at some time and we all make mistakes in the process. But she doesn't even seem to learn from her mistakes on the few occasions she ventures outside spreading some cheese on a vegetable and draping it in processed meat.
At this point, for me, it's whatever in terms of Jen's health and weight loss. She's a
dead man walking dead woman scootiepuffing. I just don't know why people who can't cook at all bother putting out recipe videos. Well, yes I do: the supreme overconfidence of the Dunning-Kruger set. But I guess what I really mean to say is that I never stop marveling at the many ways, big and small, that cows can be cows.
