The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is doubling down on its recommendation that pregnant women get the COVID-19 vaccine, following new data underscoring its safety and effectiveness throughout pregnancy.

This recommendation is coming at a time when doctors across the country are reporting an uptick in the number of unvaccinated pregnant people getting hospitalized with severe COVID-19 infections.

The low vaccination rate in this group is striking, doctors note. As of July 21, only 23% of pregnant women had received at least one dose of vaccine against the coronavirus, according to CDC statistics.

"CDC recommends that pregnant people should be vaccinated against COVID-19, based on new evidence about the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines," the agency said in updated guidance that echoes the urgent recommendation of leading medical societies. "COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all people 12 years and older, including people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant now or might become pregnant in the future."

According to the agency, concerns among some people that the mRNA vaccines might increase the risk of miscarriage when given early in a pregnancy, are not borne out by the data. Officials say miscarriage rates after the vaccine were similar to the expected rate of miscarriage in any group of pregnant people. The vaccine's also safe later in a pregnancy and while breastfeeding, the agency's new analysis indicates.

Pregnant and struggling with COVID-19: Risks of forgoing vaccination

"It's kind of a perfect storm situation. We have a highly infectious variant of COVID-19 virus in a group of individuals that the majority are not immunized. So yeah, we are seeing a lot of sick people."
Dr. Mark Turrentine, an obstetrics professor at Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Alison Cahill, a maternal fetal medicine specialist and professor at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas, Austin, has been telling all within earshot to get vaccinated. She works mostly with pregnant women who are sick with COVID-19, and sees the damage the coronavirus can do.

Cahill recalls treating an unvaccinated woman who came into her hospital with shortness of breath. Within 24 hours, she says, things got much worse and the woman needed a tremendous amount of oxygen to stay alive.

"She was pregnant in her mid trimester. So if she had needed to be delivered she would have had an extremely preterm baby with a high risk of having life long disability or even death."

Cahill says within two days of being admitted to the hospital the woman could no longer breathe on her own. She was intubated and then put on a ventilator.

Eventually, the woman needed ECMO, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, which is a machine that bypasses her lungs and oxygenates her blood for her. Cahill says she was on ECMO, which is often a bridge to a heart or lung transplant for critically ill people, for several weeks.

"She was eventually able to come off all of those things," Cahill says. "She miraculously did not require a preterm delivery. She remained pregnant and after two and a half months in the hospital was able to go home."

A lifetime of disabilities from COVID-19

Fortunately, the baby was born healthy, but the woman was sent home with likely a lifetime of disabilities. Cahill says this all could have been prevented if the woman had gotten vaccinated.

"I think that it's just an incredible opportunity that we have in the United States and everybody should avail themselves of this tremendous vaccine to prevent those types of things happening to people," she said. "It's really tragic."

Cases like that one are why recently the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine – the two leading organizations representing physicians and scientists who specialize in obstetric care -- recommended July 30 that all people who are pregnant get the COVID-19 vaccine.

"It's kind of a perfect storm situation," says Dr. Mark Turrentine, an obstetrics professor at Baylor College of Medicine, who is also the co-chair of a COVID-19 workgroup for ACOG. "We have a highly infectious variant of COVID-19 virus in a group of individuals that the majority are not immunized. So yeah, we are seeing a lot of sick people."

"ACOG encourages its members to enthusiastically recommend vaccination to their patients," Dr. J. Martin Tucker, president of ACOG, said in a written statement. "This means emphasizing the known safety of the vaccines and the increased risk of severe complications associated with COVID-19 infection, including death, during pregnancy."

How the delta variant is making things worse

Vaccinating people who are pregnant has become especially urgent in states like Texas, where the highly contagious delta variant currently makes up more than 75% of new cases. The percentage of people in Texas who are fully vaccinated is 44.5%, compared to 50.2% of the entire U.S. population.

As infection rates climb in the state, Dr. Jessica Ehrig, the obstetrics chief at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, says she's been seeing a significant increase in the number of pregnant women being hospitalized and intubated; some have died. And those severe cases of COVID-19 are also dangerous for the fetus, she notes.

"Complications include preterm birth and prematurity, increased risk of preeclampsia for these moms — which can require preterm delivery," Ehrig explained recently at an Austin press conference on the topic. "And, unfortunately, also increased risk of stillbirth."

Why COVID-19 can be especially dangerous during pregnancy

It's an especially dangerous situation when a pregnant woman gets a symptomatic case of COVID-19, notes Turrentine, as he breaks down the statistics.

"There is a threefold increase of intensive care unit admission," he says, "two and half fold increase risk of being put on mechanical ventilation or bypass support, and there's even, you know, a little over a one and half fold increased risk of death."

Medical professionals and scientists don't know exactly why pregnant women are at such high risk when they become infected with the virus, but they are concerned that this population is especially vulnerable because so many remain unvaccinated.

Since April 2021, the CDC has recommended vaccines for anyone who is pregnant, as the best way to protect them and their babies from the coronavirus. Although people who are pregnant were excluded from the initial clinical trials of the three COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the U.S., significant data gathered since then have shown the shots to be safe and effective in this group.

Turrentine says it's important to stress that the benefits of getting vaccinated far outweigh any kind of risk. Especially for someone who is pregnant, he says, the costs of not getting vaccinated are just too high.

"I have seen some pregnant women get really sick. I mean, I have seen some die," he says. "And you know, you go into this business as an obstetrician gynecologist because patients are young and they are healthy. And most of the time you have great outcomes. This is a bad virus."

Article

No numbers as usual, I clicked through to at least find the article on the new study they're talking about:

"Though limited — with a sample size of 131 — the study is the largest to date on the topic. Lead author Dr. Kathryn Gray, maternal fetal medicine specialist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, says people were eager to take part."

"The 131 participants had been vaccinated with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 84 were pregnant, 31 were lactating, and 16 were nonpregnant 18- to 45-year-old women. The study involved patients and researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Ragon Institute."

The article is somewhat vague but basically says that out of this (tiny) sample size, only "minor" side effects were observed. Compare this to the unvaccinated numbers:

"The risk of severe disease or even death from COVID-19 — while small — is higher during pregnancy. More than 82,000 coronavirus infections among pregnant individuals and 90 maternal deaths from the disease have been reported in the U.S. as of last month."

OK so by these numbers the chances of an unvaccinated (?) pregnant PERSON dying from CVOID is roughly .1% - while the odds of ANY preggo dying for any reason are roughly .02%, taken from the 17 deaths per 100,000 preggos number for the US in 2018. This would mean that you're about 5x more likely to die if you catch CVOID while pregnant, which is a definite increase in risk (to about 1/1000), but also seems like a no-brainer. I bet that if you catch other moderately severe illnesses while pregnant your chances of death also go up significantly. Overall these numbers are... not particularly alarming, though it should be noted that the total preggo mortality in the US is the worst in the "industrialized world".

Back to the study, I'm not a SCIENCE priest but I don't think we can make any judgements solely based on it. They only "vaccinated" 84 actual preggos. If the technical odds of a preggo dying from straight CVOID are 1/1000, then is it really surprising that no serious (immediate) negative reactions were observed in a vax study of less than 100? It'd be really damning if there WAS a miscarriage or two in such a small group, but it doesn't really mean anything that 84 people (I'm not sure how they were selected either but supposedly they volunteered) managed to take this shit while preggers and be OK - or at least seem OK, since a large concern is what downstream effects people (or their kids) might suffer.

Digging through these numbers reminds me that even the best stats should be considered informative rather than definitive. It's easy to think of variable after variable that's not accounted for in these broad categories, like how we don't know what the actual CVOID numbers are because of asymptomatics or people who never got tested (myself included).

OB asked my wife three times last visit. Kept claiming theres no evidence its unsafe. How could they possibly know that the shit has been out barely 9 months. My wife already had covid too.
That's a semantic game they like to play. The absence of evidence of harm (especially if you aren't actually conducting experiments to find out) is not the same thing as proof that harm does not exist.

When did the first pregnant woman get the vaccine? It has only been slightly longer than 9 months since the first covid vaccine was given the the public (December 2020). Keep in mind that pregnant women were excluded from the initial vaccine trials, so there isn't any data on that before Dec 2020. There were some animals studies, but no human trials.

The NIH have just started studying covid vaccines during pregnancy and postpartum in June 2021. Moderna started trials on pregnant women in July 2021. Pfizer started theirs in Feb 2021. None of those studies have been completed. How on earth can anyone claim that it is actually safe?

It's so odd that we're expected to assume that a group of doctors are acting against their stated political mission statement, in order to deliver world-saving knowledge which contradicts most or all previous scientific findings. Instead of one faction acting consistently with previous actions and statements, a bunch of independent actors decided to throw their careers away to troll the world.

We've now progressed to true madness. I wonder if in 999AD when farmers were abandoning their crops and people across Europe preaching the Apocalypse, there were people who felt like us just lost amidst the hysteria. Unless there's some terrible secret about this disease that only those high up in Government are privy to - and I highly doubt that by this point or we'd have seen evidence of it in the data - then this is out of control greed and hubris on a level I have never witnessed before.

Oh boy, I can't wait to see all the stories about miscarriages, stillbirths, and disabled babies caused by these quacks.

All assuming that the stories don't get swept under the rug, or if they don't try to excuse these atrocities, of course.

Someone in another thread proposed that the reason they're obsessed with having literally everyone vaccinated is because it's the only way they can prevent a control group of unvaccinated people existing that shows (a) the vaccine is harmful (b) Covid-19 isn't that harmful or (c) both.
I'm starting to believe it.

I’m pretty sure Ben Shapiro’s sister miscarried after the vaccine but they don’t want to admit it, and there’s been a few vacation nurses who did it while pregnant only to have a miscarriage.

how incredibly selfish to do that while growing life, just to get retweets and likes.
So what you are saying is...the Khazar milkers are probably lactating?
Amazing how the coof vax happens to be a miracle cure that ignores all the decades of prior scientific knowledge we know. You thinking of having a kid? Make sure you clear all your shots before you get knocked up. This has been known for a long time, but doesn't apply when politically expedient.

Where's the lie? That would work.
It did. And then a bunch of kids died of opium poisoning and opium withdrawals.

Basically, there’s still stuff we don’t know about the vaccine and kids, especially, react to things differently from adults, so doctors pushing this so hard on kid seems like it could cause unforseen problems.

Well you don't see that every day.

But any article that says "pregnant people" has their content automatically discarded. Even if they started out with women and switched for some reason.

Remember when doctors said we should give babies laudenum to calm them down?

Perhaps we'll go back to using heroin as a teething medicine.

Serious question here, once the jab begins showing all sorts of fucked up shit in people and their children, how valuable will unjabbed sperm and eggs go for?

I'm willing to bet even then the media and 'doctors' will paint the jab as a great thing, like, "Yeah your kids will all be drooling retards who die by the age of 4 if they're lucky, you are half paralyzed, and you still need fto mask up for Coof variant Super Omega 45, but at least you are safe."

But at least our Short Bus types will have plenty of new recruits.

Cahill is a goddamn liar. Assuming she even exists, if she was on ECMO for "several weeks" it was absolutely not just because of covid.

Based on the alleged progression, she had a bad case of covid-related bacterial pneumonia most likely complicated by COPD from smoking 11,000 packs a day, they immediately shoved a bunch of tubes down her throat because that's what the panicky retards at hospitals do nowadays, and it let the bacteria spread so badly that her lungs shut down entirely.

This woman was in absolute horseshit health, just like every other "young and totally healthy for real" single data point horror story they keep pushing out. Don't smoke, don't be fat, and get a tiny bit of exercise once in awhile and you'll be fine.

We need another Timothy McVeigh. :(
These fucking people are plain fucking evil.
Everything this last few years or so is just so frustrating. It's not even tiresome anymore, it's infuriating how many drones go along with whatever 'experts' say all the fucking time. Half these idiots are just patsies and yesmen doing whatever they're told or informed.

I'm sure the vaccine is perfectly safe, after all we have tons of longitudinal studies following the children of vaccinated mothers for years after uh

So....a vaccine that can't be given to someone under 12 because it isn't safe is somehow totally safe for both the mother and the developing fetus

Fucking idiots

I'm banking on it. I'll never get vaccinated but I'll gladly sell bugmen and their roastie wives my sperm so they can have non retards. It won't be cheap though.
