New here but been following Phil very closely since 2010 or 2011.
I made an account just to post this thought I had about Phil which is that Phil really believes everything he says. He obviously knows when he tells blatant lies to his fans but as a narcissist he truly believes his more common lies about video games, his living situation, his financial situation, and so on.
The proof in the pudding is watching any of DSP's playthroughs for any mission or boss he had a difficult time with ever. People often categorize him as this master scammer and manipulator which I really think is a mindset that needs to be forgotten. He's a severely mentally ill narcissistic man who doesn't even think twice about any lie. If you watch him play any game he ever struggled with, he will say what went wrong in his struggle and still continue to repeat the same thing over and over. Even with the advent of stream chat to hold his hand, he always behaves the same. A good example of this is any souls boss, especially the fairly simple Aldrich the Devourer in Dark Souls 3. He identifies the issues he's having with the boss flawlessly, those being that he rolls far too late, and that he is attacking far too often (both things that he blames on the game's frame rate, and "lag").
The fact that Phil hates video games so much yet never rectifies these obvious issues with his gameplay means that he is genuinely unaware of his flaws. If he knew he had to roll a second earlier, he would take less than 50 tries to beat a single boss in Dark Souls 3. But he truly believes his own bullshit about how the game actually has an extremely low frame rate that is fucking him. If he was simply a chronic liar, he would roll a second earlier and then say "it went through that time!". He never does though. He still wastes hours on each boss complaining the whole way and it's not an act, I'm sure you've all seen Project 7.
I just want to remind people that while Phil lies so much he can come off as a pathological liar and nothing else, he truly is not. His actual fatal flaw is that he is truly incapable of recognizing his own shortcomings and flaws. Anyone who speculates that he feels horrible about himself "behind the scenes" and actually is bothered by comments about his atrophied body or receding hairline, you need to remember- Phil is impenetrable. Phil is the mental fortress that allows himself to survive, to be Phil. To even speculate he can recognize a single flaw in himself is to give him too much credit.
