Becky did not want to go to Lexington in the first place, but Amber needed surgery and medical care for her cancer, so she relented. However, Amber has been making noise about moving to Oklahoma or California, since their lease is up, and for Becky, this is a step too far. With her health declining and her attachment to her family, she felt that she could not live with Amber anymore. If Amber could not commit to staying in Kentucky, there was no other solution.
This the way I read the situation too. Otherwise, she would've let it stretch for as long as possible.
Petaluma and Santa Rosa are almost suburbs of San Fransisco. The cheapest 1-bedroom apartment is at least $1,500-$2,000.
Amber didn’t need to move to Lexington to have a hysterectomy. She wasn’t required to do months of chemo or anything of the sort. The fact was just having to take a few long car rides was too much for the 600 lb monster.
They also could have easily rented an airbnb for a month or whatever when she had surgery and post surgery appts.
They moved to Lexington because Amber wanted to isolate Becky. I think some drama with the boys made Amber realize Becky’s friends were a threat to her control over Becky, and she already was paranoid about her family.
Becky remaining friends with Dana and others, after Hamber got pissed off at them, made her start thinking she needed to move even further away.
It was stupid of Amber to start pushing that idea though. Did she really expect Becky to handle the logistics of moving a 600 lb woman? California was a fantasy. The only place Amber could move to was near her family in Oklahoma, but probably was hard to sell the idea that they should move to Amber’s abusive meth mom and aunt and leave all of Becky’s family and friends. Amber might have pushed so hard on this that Becky snapped.
If a decision about a move was imminent due to the lease expiring Amber should have just have been happy with the status quo. I get the feeling that they couldn’t afford another year in that apartment, but ironically the apartment wasn’t really that expensive. For $1500 you get a nice apartment in Lexington in a good part of town, for that same amount you will get a shitty apartment in a sketchy part of town even in the cheaper regions of CA.
Amber can get a trailer or small home in OK with meth mom for under $1k, but I don’t think Becky was willing to deal with that hell. Even if there was extra money for a move the sheer hell of trying to move Mt. Hamber to her next binge cave had to make Becky’s blood run cold.
Becky also had to see how Amber was pulling her down the drain with her. Becky’s health has gone off a cliff since getting in a codependent relationship with Amber and knew things were only going to get worse.
