"An investigation is underway at Sacajawea Middle School where a family says their children were the victims of racial discrimination.

Emzayia Feazell and Zyeshauwne Feazell say their teacher had them and their classmates pick cotton in a social studies class on May 3, 2021.

“I was shocked that a teacher would bring a box of cotton into a class and tell them to pick it clean so she could teach us how slaves were back then,” said Emzayia."

Hurt feelings abound.

For the most part, American black names aren't derived from Africa at all. There was a time where they tried to abandon American names in favor of French-inspired and French names and I think with some Arab influence thrown into the mix and it evolved into "Just make shit up that sorta sounds like those aforementioned names."
In this case I'm pretty sure those names are original but inspired by other names.

Lots of people treat their children's name as if they were RPG characters.
Some countries have limits on what you can name your kid for this very reason: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naming_law

I actually remember doing this as a class activity nearly 30 years ago, in my all white classroom. It was meant to show us why the cotton gin was so revolutionary, which then led into learning about how the ability to clean cotton much easier led to the increased value of individual slaves (and the possible hampering of abolition without war) AND later terrible soil degradation in the south, leading to George Washington Carver espousing crop rotation including legumes.

But yeah, lets deprive kids of the opportunity for a hands on example that could lead to them actually retaining information. Because we've taught them to be offended by teachers asking them to IMAGINE THE PAST in order to learn about it.

“I was shocked that a teacher would bring a box of cotton into a class and tell them to pick it clean so she could teach us how slaves were back then,” said Emzayia."
OK, so the alternative then is to just tell them "slavery was really bad" and they'll just understand and agree? Oh what am I saying, of course that's what we should do. We've lost the ability to reconcile the past, so we have to just ignore the realities of it and pretend it either never happened, or it was full of nothing but evil (even though evil doesn't really exist since there is no standard moral code to judge good vs. evil)

Also it's not really surprising that this story comes from Spokane. Remember Rachel Dolezal, pioneer of transracial identity, is from Spokane. Spokane is even whiter than Seattle and Portland which are already pretty damn white, and it's a purple-ish city surrounded by red, so Spokane liberals have a serious case of hicklib syndrome.

Oh, I remember having to pick those annoying little seeds out of cotton in social studies class when we were learning about the industrial revolution. They also made us do an assembly line making paper hats (while our teacher yelled at as) during that lesson too.

Why niggers so fragile?

It's like niggers intentionally try to come up with the most ridiculous sounding names and then complain people are racist because they can take one look at their name and know they're black. It's super rare to see a black person with a normal, common name like Ryan or Elizabeth or something. It's always gotta be some weird nonsense that nobody can pronounce.
I had a claimant called “Tywooqiande” once and to this day I’m still not sure if I ever pronounced it “correctly”.
