NJ community outraged over fifth-grader’s Hitler project

A New Jersey community is up in arms after a fifth-grade student’s controversial report on Adolf Hitler was displayed in the elementary school’s hallway for weeks, according to a report and social media posts.

The project, written in Hitler’s voice, appeared at Maugham Elementary School in Tenafly, NorthJersey.com reported, citing a Facebook post from a local parent Lori Birk.

“My greatest accomplishment was uniting a great mass of German and Austrian people behind me,” the bio read.

“I was pretty great, wasn’t I? I was very popular and many people followed me until I died,” it continued.

The student who completed the Hitler bio also dressed as the Nazi leader as part of the assignment, the report said.

Birk told the news site that the report was in the hallway for at least two weeks beginning in April.

“This is one of the most f’d up things I have ever seen,” one person commented on Birk’s post.

Another person said: “How is this possible in one of the most Israeli towns in the country. I am disgusted.”

A third commenter said, “I’m in shock, this is terrible.”

In a Tuesday statement, Tenafly Public Schools Superintendent Shauna DeMarco said the project came from an “assignment on social norms and historical figures who personify good and evil.”

DeMarco said the assignment has been taken out of context.

“The assignment (which was given by a teacher who happens to be Jewish) asked students to speak from the perspective of one of these individuals and how they might have perceived and rationalized their actions,” the superintendent wrote.

“When people saw the students’ projects, which were displayed in the school, they did not understand the assignment, resulting in justifiable concerns. Given that the lesson was specifically issued within the context of social justice, it is unfair to judge any student or teacher in this matter,” DeMarco added.

Kid missed the part where he crippled Europe in a state of economic despair and killed himself soon after.

Now, which one of your kids is responsible for this?

I mean, those are pretty valid points. also advanced a lot of sciences directly and indirectly

Maybe comparing Hilter to a US president wasn't the best idea.

Or idolizing a fascist to begin with.

Student picked on by angry internet mob for report on only person to be named Time Person of the Year twice.

Sounds like he did the assignment. What are they upset about? Someone crop the "and evil" out of the picture? Are they seriously deluded enough to believe a personification of evil would have any shame?

I would've wrote about Hillary Clinton. What would the school do?

Someone's kid has certainly seen Triumph des Willens. Beautiful stuff tbh (as a Stilicho myself). Great uniforms too, those Nazis sure knew how to keep good grooming standards and look shit hot.

Then you do further historical research and learn that a certain "symbol" has been around since ancient times, and that Hitler did indeed have a Dream, an August one.

This is about what I'd expect from a 5th grader. Everyone chooses Hitler as the topic of their WW2 presentation or any other history assignment that lets them choose the topic. Remember some kids even sporting the stache during it when I was in school.

Give kids room to write about Hitler and they'll write about Hitler.

He shoulda picked Stalin

"I murdered 15 million people to modernize my country and they went along with it! Then I beat Hitler no matter how many lives it took! Then I murdered more people and made half of Europe my puppets and they still went along with it! Pretty accomplished, da?"

Lol there's no way a kid wrote that.
That is 101% a parent looking for a quick paycheck doing TV interviews for NJ12.

No, he did the assignment right, he was supposed to write from they perspective of the character, who was never going to admit he fucked up.

The same people who call everybody they don't like Hitler or Nazi are mad that other than them talks about Hitler.

Funny how they love base their own morality on Hitler, but hate when he's studied or mentioned as a real historical figure, I wonder why...

Maybe the teacher or project should be to blame.

Or maybe people should calm down and realize that's the way that a dictator would speak of himself, and the student did a good job of replicating it.

Inform you that she didn't win?
