Powerlevel but the fact that BL shit is so far removed from who you actually are as a lesbian or bi woman is part of the appeal for me as well. I'm not into the gross diaper bullshit and as I aged I became more interested in shit involving female characters, but I agree with the idea of lesbians consuming bl content as a way to safely explore sexuality in a way that's completely removed from who they actually are.

This is a super weird dynamic I've noticed in real life as well - very online bandom/weeaboo girls who transition (actually take T/have top surgery) who only date other girls doing the same thing while calling themselves gay (a few bisexual). It seems like their actual sexuality is probably bisexual? But they only date other fujos because gay men are obviously not attracted to FtMs and they can't pull a non-insane woman. Very common in cosplay communities as well - odds are good that if you come across a "he/him" or male-ish name on Instagram they're female.
