Italian police said they found weapons, Nazi flags and pictures of dictator Benito Mussolini in the homes of the members of a white supremacist movement who were trying to build a new fascist party.

Officers searched the homes of 25 people belonging to the 'Last Legion' group on Thursday on suspicion of spreading hatred on the internet against Muslims, homosexual people and Jews, police said.

Investigators seized knives, ammunition, guns and fascist memorabilia stored by members who openly defined themselves as "fascists" and advocated violence as a way to solve political conflict, a police statement said.

"I always have rings on my fingers and a truncheon with me. Now I also have a machete," read a message sent by one Last Legion member to another, intercepted by the police.

Group members also denied the existence of the coronavirus pandemic, calling it a plot by financial and religious lobbies, Eugenio Spina, the head of the police branch dedicated to fighting terrorism and extremism, told Reuters.

"They wanted to build a new fascist party," he added.

Police said they made no arrests on Thursday but were investigating two people for holding unregistered guns.

The investigation started in 2019 in the central region of Abruzzo and was then extended across Italy, targeting a total of 18 provinces from north to south, police said.

The sorts of people that live in Italy and yet buy a German National Socialist flag aren't interested in actual politics, or actual nationalism, or even national socialism. They're interested in being purely edgy for the sake of edgy. Most Nationalist parties I know of; and the meetups I've been to basically boiled down to camping trips, community building, litter picking and sometimes we went hiking. No one over the age of 15 would want to be involved in a group that just glow-posts on the web.

Im pretty sure the average rural Italian home has more weapons than this sad showing. Italians love to hunt and getting a hunting weapon in italy legaly is not that hard.

A lot of groups come off as far more edgy than they need to, in a way similar to how the Free Masons appear a lot more mysterious than they really are; they're just mens' clubs.

Med. Europe tends to have the most active and prolific "fascist" movements/parties, out of all the far right outlets they could've involved themselves in they had to choose the most autistic. A lot of them even look semi-presentable, a far cry from far-right groups in the US which are almost universally filled with degenerates.

Groups like CasaPound have a certain charm to them, although not too deep below their crust I'm sure they're not much better than most "fascist" degenerates.
