That's the problem, most of the time the "white character" isn't dying, there's no closure, it's just "we're changing the original Superman that is currently being player by Henry Cavill into a jogger for zero reason, despite having several existing properties that are joggers trying to fill superman's boots (Steel) or that are joggers from Krypton (Calvin Ellis from Alt-Earth-23, etc.)."

Not a single attempt to pass any torches (like Capt. America going back in time to live a life with the Bri*ish chick, and giving his shield to Rhodes when he shows up as an old guy), just a forced re-imagining of a character as some minority identity group, because "minority good! non-minority bad!"

If DC was talking about flushing the Shaq version of Steel into the ocean, and remaking it with someone that can act, that'd be pretty cool, since that was around the last time I gave a crap about comics, but I ain't holding out hope that they're going to do that, based on the statements being made.
Again I don’t follow this shit very closely but the only (prominent, excluding shit like nick fury) instances I’ve seen of this seem to be just characters taking up the mantle after something happens to the original (Jane briefly becoming ‘Thor’ after he lost his powers or whatever, Sam taking over after Cap in the movies, Ironheart becoming the next Iron Man), or it’s a multiverse thing (Miles Morales). I remember when the female Thor thing happened back in like 2016 picking up reading it briefly because I was curious as to what the upset was about, and realizing real quick that they didn’t actually sex change actual Thor; this kind of thing seems to largely be a publicity stunt to make it seem like they’re making these big dramatic changes to canon rather than just having other characters take over the moniker.

which isn’t a new concept either really, afaik there have been similar storylines for years in DC with Batman and the various Robins.

New Steel would be a BLM protestor. I'll take Shaq over that any day.

The first instance I can remember of Thor being replaced was Beta-Ray Bill, but I don't think that was the first time, or anything like the only time. It was definitely back in the late 90's, IIRC. My point is that race-swapping is less interesting than the plethora of interesting options that already exist. Also, Ironheart was one of the laziest attempts at creating a new user for Iron Man suits I think I've come across.

If they could avoid that bullshit, I'd prefer to nuke Shaw's version, because it was terrible. But you're probably right, considering the new version of Static is pro-BLM.

Here's my thing, I don't mind race/gender swapping (though I prefer if that stuff is kept to alternate universes or instances where a hero has to give up the mantle for a while and has someone filling in) but the issue isn't the swapping itself, it's that 100% of the time when a character is turned from a man to a woman or white to black their ENTIRE CHARACTER becomes about how they're a woman or how they're black. They lose what made the character who they were and become a political tool to try and score points with vapid wokesters.

Remember that every time something bad happens to a woman or to a black person, it happens because they're a woman or black, and absolutely no other reason. The identity keeps being thrust to the forefront.

Exactly. Generally, whenever an established character is race and/or gender swapped, they also lose their personality in the process. If they're not spewing current year garbage, then they're just one dimensional Mary Sues who are immune to any bad luck, criticism, or flaws of any kind. Why can't "diverse" characters be fun? Why must there always be a stern lecture or hamfisted lesson attached to everything they do? Furthermore, why remove any edginess, innuendos, and other weird content that used to exist in a wokefied story?

I wouldn't care about diversity if it didn't take all the fun out of entertainment.

Indeed, when someone makes som Thing entirely about their race, gender, sexuality, politics, religion etc. In universe and IRL, they diminish themselves. There is no shame in being proud of those things but when everything is done to glorify it and demonize what they see as opposition to what they virtue signal about it's clear that they mark themselves as lesser people. Because time and again, anytime they create or do something in the name of what they virtue signal about, they end up creating something that is universally horrible. Look at religious movies and movies that pander to the SJW crowd and the signs are all over the wall.

In some ways such actions by the woke crowd as made people apprehensive of such changes because a lot of the time it's done with a woke agenda and not to create or retell a story in new ways. I wouldn't mind it, in fact I do enjoy stories with a diverse cast but having the people behind them poison the well like that makes it a chore to find a good story not infected by wokeism.

But on a humorous note, could you imagine if they made a character that obsessed about how white they are in this day and age? It would cause the mother of all outrages, which is something the defeats the whole purpose of diversity, it's either all or nothing.

Speaking about race/gender-swapping, I think it can be a good thing since some actors are made to play a character, I know diesel patches said this but I could see Idris Elba playing James Bond since he was the skills and physique to play him but if race/gender-swapping is the done in the wrong way, then it can be hot garbage.

I object less to James Bond, since the character itself is a role, in and of itself. It's like The Transporter, it's not a specific person, it's a role assumed by one.

This whole panic about superheroes getting woker is the most autistic shit to see; if it upsets you that much go watch something else, or quit being so sensitive that seeing black characters triggers you into internet spergouts.
Or just grow the fuck up and watch something for adults instead of retarded MCU capeshit.

Fair enough. If Idris Elba as James Bond still goofed around with sexy women, had crazy adventures, and there wasn't a trace of political correctness in the movie, then it would be great!

Ugh. Remember when superhero movies were a more sporadic phenomenon? I miss that. Now they're all consolidated into a soulless bloated franchise. Like clockwork, there's at least 2 or 3 Marvel or DC movies annually.

On a related note, even though I didn't like the Daredevil movie, I do think Michael Duncan Clarke did a good job as Kingpin. It's an example of race swapping done right. It didn't matter that Kingpin was black because it didn't ruin the character. I don't think so. I'm aware of the backstory for why he got the role too, but I still think he pulled it off pretty good!

I think they're not going to repeat the same success with the next arc of movies. Fatigue had already set in for a lot of people with the final movie and I believe we're going to see a lot of flops.

Daredevil was a bad movie, whichever of the two versions you watch. But Kingpin and Bullseye both had actors that seemed to know that and were chuckling their way through the whole thing. Despite that it was a solid Kingpin performance and even at the time I considered it a worthwhile change in the character. The fact that there's not many actors of that sort of build to play Kingpin was a factor too, he had exactly the right build to make Affleck's Daredevil look like a tiny twig man and it worked.

I really don't give a shit about Elba playing James Bond because I don't care about James Bond, and Elba is a great actor who seems like he would be a great fit, but does anyone remember when Daniel Craig was cast? Bond fans were up in arms because Craig's eyes were blue and Bond's eyes are canonically brown. A reminder of a time when people cared about accurate character casting instead of social justice virtue signaling. (Of course, the eye color thing was stupid too, but in a different way.)

I don't member his blue eyes being an issue but his hair sure was. He was mocked with James Blond kinda alot. Not a huge James Bond fan but I got what their point and mostly agreed with these fans. Looks are part of any character and changing them too much will take people out of the story, especially iconic characters. James Bond has a look and despite many men playing the part some aspects stayed the same. This actor Daniel Graig just looks too different and that's why these fans have hard time seeing the character in him. There was little reason not to make Daniel Graig to look more like Bonds of the past and the dressing department should have just put some dark color in his hair be it with wigs or hairdye.

Dunno, luv. Your mum didn't complain when I told her one.

Took my copper time to notice this. Wonder if it was intentional or not.
