To be fair, I thought that was another lamestream media lie in that the cop was quoting what the kid himself said and was not inserting his own words. More than happy to be wrong about that though.

If a kid is great at school stuff it won't matter because no parent is going to sign them up for any extra activities.
Talented in sports or music? Too bad, lessons/gear would cost all the beer money plus gas and time going to and from events. Nope.
Good grades? That's nice but everyone knows the only jobs are at the gas station and the Dairy Queen, and they're not hiring. Plus didn't the teens get in trouble with the police after their mom and aunt told them to go shoplift a bunch of stuff for them? Criminal record looks bad on a job application.

Huge difference between blacks and whites is, whites will see a news story about how Cledus Jr The Third got busted making meth out of the trunk of his car in the Walmart parking lot and shake their heads, maybe ever curl a lip in derision.

The main difference is generational poverty stemming from these behaviors is much more common per capita among blacks than whites, not just media coverage. Poor whites also regularly outperform blacks of any income in standardized testing.
