Thing is, animals will reject malformed babies even if the malformation isn’t visible externally.

I fostered a pregnant cat that wandered up and decided my home was now hers. She had a big litter of beautiful kittens and several of them were manx cats, one was especially gorgeous. A smoky grey color and super fluffy, it was such a beautiful kitten but the mama cat rejected it after a day or so. I kept trying to get it to feed and she’d if she couldn’t kick it off, she’d get up and move it to the edge of the box or drop it outside the box.

I took on bottle nursing the kitten but it was fading quickly so off to the vet we went. Turns out the kitten didn’t have a functional lower intestine and it was missing it’s anus. I had him put to sleep because he was just suffering. The mama cat knew and she rejected it so she could focus on the ones most likely to survive and thrive. I was just a soft human who saw BABY and pulled out all the stops to save it’s life (thankfully the vet didn’t charge the poor college kid).

Long story short: cats are better mothers than these mothers.
all the cats I ended up fostering were rejected because they had downs syndrome, yes cats can get downs syndrome, the only difference is basically that the tard cats are more derpy than general, the one I ended up keeping for myself was as dumb as the day was long, but his derpiness and sweet nature won me over, but derpiness in the wild can mean life or death. he literally chased his own tail in circles for hours and bit his tail hard enough to make himself cry.

With the fundies, it is very hard to say with them though. In the olden days such babies were pretty much considered monsters and not thought of in such glowing terms, even by religious people. Now they are, even though the Bible hasn't changed. It's interesting.
Fundamentalists definitely don't believe all children are blessings. It's more that having someone disabled is an opportunity to serve God. Most tard babies in fundamentalist families are quietly terminated. Think about it: How many profoundly disabled children have you seen in the fundamentalist communities? Fewer than in mainstream society. There is still a huge shame and stigma.

If it and the mother were completely tailless, it probably had Manx syndrome, a fatal condition unique to Manx cats that have two dominate tailless genes. Not all completely tailless Manx cats are afflicted, but some are depending on the breeding. Poor baby.

I recall within the last year or two there was a giraffe at a wildlife park, national park, or some zoo somewhere that gave birth, but quickly rejected the baby. It was taken care of by people briefly, who knew that it very likely had some sort of fatal defect, but didn't have enough justification to immediately put it down on the very slim off chance it was okay. And when it died pretty much on schedule a couple of weeks later they admitted that animal mothers have a keen sense of when their offspring are fatally defective and that they expected it'd die.

We learned that baby has something called “alobor holoprosencephaly” (HPE) where there is an absence of a lot of the brain structure. We also learned that baby has a large cleft extending up between the eyes, meaning there is no nose structure evident and the eyes eye are also very close together and bulging. Baby is measuring quite small in a number of ways which can be attributed to the lack of brain structure. All of these generally point to a chromosomal problem which we will eventually learn more about through testing at some point.

We also learned that a lot of babies do not survive in utero and this could result in miscarriage or baby will be stillborn. If the baby lives through delivery, there is a 50% of death before 5 months old and 80% chance before a year. We have already made the decision that I will carry the baby as long as it is alive as it is only the way this sweet little one gets to be alive & have life.
They are so in denial about it all they won't even admit their failed abortion will have ONE eye.

so basically rules for me and not for thee when it comes to abortion? okay cool to know,

Do they actually know what alobar holoprosencephaly IS, or did the doctors give them an overly gentle and glossed over version of what it’s all about?
It seems retarded to me they wouldn't simply Google it. They clearly have access to the internet. So it's bizarre but possible they are completely avoiding seeing images of it.

Well some of the pics is night mare fuel inducing....so can't really blame willful ignorance if I am going based on that department.if people dont want to see the pics that is.

Depending on the severity chances are that lol, if its severe enough it'll be a still born or die with in seconds after birth. so hopefully to spare a world of pain for the baby nature would just yeet its existence before it begins. the lowest end of the spectrum of that is just a cleft pallet which is easily fixable, but highest end is literal phsyclops baby, the highest end has the lowest chance for survival, but can't blame a parent for carrying it to term because chances are it could be the lowest end, I grew up catholic, so I was taught no easy i.e. abortion outs but dnr is a thing so long as you don't kill it intentionally but letting nature take its course is okay. can't understand fundies with there whole ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS, schtick, god has a tendancy to blot out his own mistakes, and its nothing wrong to do a dnr if one of these veggie kids end up taking a wrong turn.

I appreciate the letter of what you're saying, but not the spirit, because it's just so supremely bitchy.

It's almost like fundamentalists are broken and live in shame like the rest of us,. You can't compel others' speech and gatekeep abortion and still pretend autonomy is a heart value for you.

the problem with fundies and the whole abortion issue is that they're so fucking hypocrictical about it; its like nigga if life was that important you carry the tard baby until completion and either take your chances, or give it up for adoption or give it up, atleast most catholics I know keep the pregnancy for better or for worse, and make actual fucking sane decisions if they end up with a living corpse child, granted it still requires some life support but you never see a catholic prolong the life of a potato much longer than necessary and try and revive that potato when its yeeting its own existence out.
I'm not against abortion per se, but like my cat, who will stare at an open door, make up your damn mind, either your a holy roller who believes abortion is sin, then live by that, or accept that abortion isn't a bad thing in some circumstances and it's better than putting yourself or others through a world of emotional pain, and financial stress.

Whoa, whoa, I’m broken and live in shame? Fuck, when did this happen? Figured I would find out on KF.

I don’t think anyone here has any problem with religious fundamentalist who might chose to have an abortion for whatever reason. The issue has always been religious fundamentalists trying to stop everyone else from ever having an abortion for any reason.

In America today if you discover at 22 weeks pregnancy that your baby has some horrible non-compatible with life defect then you will have to desperately search for one of two doctors in the entire country who will provide an abortion and pay upwards of $12k. This is entirely thanks to the religious crusade against abortion.

If this scenario would happen to you in Sweden or the UK you could have an abortion at your local hospital at no cost because religious fundamentalists there haven’t crusaded to dictate public policy on abortion access.

I'm not a doctor

But these alobar holoprosencephaly and sirenomyelia disorders are all basically "polarity" disorders

One of the big hurdles during development is the collection of cells in the blastocyst correctly polarising and forming the body axis. So the head forms on the opposite side to the feet, and the lungs etc form symmetrically on both sides of the body. If the polarity steps totally fail it's just early lethal, no way to go. This is why you don't ever see babies born with the feet growing from the head or so on. That level of failure to form a body axis would be fatal even before the head formed just because the tissue signalling is so vital for forming blood vessels and the proto organs. It's not some lark where you could get a squid baby with all the limbs swapped places.

Sonic hedgehog signalling (shh) is the big one, as is BMP (bone morphogenic protein) and some others. Interestingly sonic hedgehog was named from fly genetics cos it was a quirky little mutant with spiky growths... Turns out that gene in humans is linked to loads of birth defects. Scientists are told not to give fun kooky names to genes now just in case of shit like that

Anyway I don't really have a point to this post
Just remember that even in defects that seem like they're not too bad, under the surface it's way more complex. Like you could look at the sirenomyelia mermaid babies and think separating the legs should be easy. But oh no. The developmental failures that prevented the separation of those legs in utero also were the same steps that were meant to form the bottom of the colon, the pelvis, the reproductive organs and so on

My point was all of those feelings of shame and admonishment are also felt by fundamentalist women (fundamentalists who menstruate?). Someone a few posts ago was saying fundamentalist women don't deserve access to abortion because of the views that are frequently shown in media regarding fundamentalist positions. That sort of hypocrisy is exactly what turns women from feminist communities. No one is obligated to be hospitable, but this is just obnoxious to then be surprised when you bully an outgroup and then they in turn demonize you. I feel like I'm in a pretty good position to speak on this, but I reckon everyone does, and you seem bright enough to take it with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately, a lot of those conditions are discovered later in a pregnancy, as you covered, but while many states don't allow for late term abortion (which carries an increased risk of infection), early induction followed by palliative care IS allowed, and doesn't have the same risks. I'd like to see some restructuring around obstetrical medicine that's more mother-friendly. As for Sweden, they really just have better obstetrical care. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Today’s dr Phil reminded me of this thread, but instead of a child, it’s a grown ass man and his wife getting the attention on social media:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=ppxXdcCcyk8
I know this is supposed to be about tard babies, but when I went to the video and out of curiosity I watched a few more clips I stumbled across the channel called all luv no hate, re hasing tiktok clips.
Okay so the wife is an attention whore but according to the dr. phil episode she really wants to take her husband off life support, whether or not her grifting off the literal corpse of her husband is bad is really trumped by the mothers refusal to let her son go, mind you he became braindead off a suicide attempt in jail after being a druggie and taking his mothers cards. Mom says wife shouldn't make the decision to pull the plug because they've been technically separated, and josh had a druggie girlfriend whilst doing drugs, that led to him wanting to hero in jail. because drugs, You know as if drugs, had fuck all to do with the equation of why they might be separated. I am totally sure it was definitely not the fact that maybe the wife didn't want to deal with a spiral into drugs, oh no can't possibly be that.
Anyway so some "friend" of the wife calling bullshit on that I think its the sock account of the mom, is posting videos of rehashed titktoks.

Can't archive but someone else archieve it for me

All of them are titled #Justiceforjosh

Video 1:

Video despricition:
Since Josh's injury he has had 1 week of physical therapy and a couple of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments in a 50% chamber. The office was for children with autism and they weren't equipped for a full treatment plan for an adult in his condition. His wife was donated over 10k for HBOT in a 100% chamber. He was supposed to receive 40 sessions (1 hour a day, 5 days a week, for 8 weeks) but she has kept all the money for herself. He has never had any rehab, not even speech therapy when he was trying to talk. This man deserves some rehab and treatment but his wife is the only one who can allow him to do it.

Video 2:

Video Despriction:
This is just some of the money that was raised and donated for Josh to get hbot that he still hasn't got. Meanwhile his wife started a new gofundme for more money just 2 months ago. Josh has been laying in a nursing home for 2 years and his wife who is in charge of his treatment and care has never got him any rehab whatsoever. No therapy. Nothing

Video 3:

See video 2 description for this one.

Video 4:

Description: ThIs Is JoSh'S sToRy

Video 5:

Description: This is an amazing update about Josh

Video 6

Description: fuck it I am not copypasta from video despriction, basically it's facebook bitch slapping between josh's sidehoe and his wife.

Video 7:

Description: blah blah bullshit claims with out documentation only rehashed titok post as proof.

FINALLY VIDEO MOTHER FUCKING EIGHT

Description: a sock talking about a sock with the other sock having their hand up said sock's in video's ass.

I am trying to get the last name of josh off one of the videos so I can see if I can find a mugshot to lol at, but the gist it he guy who is in perma fucked braindeath right now, didn't die in a freak accident, he died in jail, due to a botched hero attempt because he's a loser druggie seperated from his wife with a side hoe who stole his mom's cards to possible buy drugs and suicide baited his mom to try and get out of that consequence. Which was jail, as a result he attempted to kill himself in jail, botched it and became brain dead, now his legal wife is milking his living death for all its worth, and realizes at some point it has to end, but his mommy dearest doesn't want to put him out of his misery which resulted in them going on dr phil and me stumbling across this fun little gem of fundie denial, to lol, I think both parties are shit people and don't feel bad for the man whose brain dead, but if anyone wants to dig more I encorage it because I really want to see if he has any priors.
Moral of the story?

Don't do drugs, but if you do and want to be a little bitch like this guy here and commit a hero while in jail because you can't handle conquences than do it right because your existence may not end and you maybe perma fucked like this poor bastard because of it.

"The wife of a brain-injured man in Louisiana wants to withdraw his nutrition and hydration in order to facilitate his death by dehydration and starvation. Joshua Barras suffered a brain injury over two years ago after a tragic suicide attempt. He is responsive and can be seen smiling and even singing in videos, but he is dependent on a feeding tube for nutrition and hydration. Life Legal has filed legal pleadings to ensure that Joshua continues to receive care, including food and water."

Shame and admonishment are good motivation factors, the problem isn't whether or not fundie women should have access to abortion, the problem is the hypocrisy of one hand telling non fundies how to live their lives and on the other having some examples not living their own saintly examples they want others to follow, because personal reasons; like rape or tard babies, the shit spewing about other women having to carry tard babies or rape babies because AlL lIfE is ImPorTanT; even the life of some clumps of cells in the body of human being, but not living their own beliefs because apparently when it happens to them then autonomy is now a thing. You can't have you cake and eat it too, either abortion is bad sin and all life is important even it supersedes your own, or not; one of the reasons why I stopped being catholic is that bullshit, and shame is a hell of a lot worse in Catholicism than you protestant noobs. The papacy literally governed nations dealings using shame when it was at it's full power. Yet some how I see a real lack of feverent catholic moms talking about their miracle babies and shilling mlm products, I mean granted there may be a few probably Spanish speaking, but still over whelming majority are fundies, and the fundies are rife with hypocrisy.

I agree. I have a rescue Manx with a 'rumpy riser' (meaning a tail with basically one vertebrae) and you have to breed a tailed Manx to a tailless to avoid Manx Syndrome. Often the ones with no tail at all and ones with rumpy risers like my boy have a pretty rough time of things and can struggle to poop and get terrible arthritis. My boy is 14 this year and constantly needs laxatives because as he's become an old man his Manx butt has become more and more problematic.

I have another cat, a Ragdoll, who my vet believes has a chromosomal disorder. He's like the cat with Downs Syndrome, derpy and so sweet and has no self-preservation instincts. I ran into a stranger who had a cat from the same breeder and her cat also had this issue, so it seems to be genetic.

Anyway, enough about deformed and mentally handicapped cats.

That documentary about Shiloh's last 6 months broke my heart. She was on such a positive trajectory and seemed like a sweet, witty kid with a great attitude. She was learning to gain independence and was positive even in the face of her parents' divorce. I have to admit I was teary by the end. It's even more devastating when you find out her mother died 5 years later. I know the dad got busted for having weapons but I hope that aside from that he's doing okay and living his life like he said he wanted to - in a way that would make Shiloh proud.
