NEW YORK (AP) — Mr. Potato Head is no longer a mister.

Hasbro, the company that makes the potato-shaped plastic toy, is giving the spud a gender neutral new name: Potato Head. The change will appear on boxes this year.

Toy makers have been updating their classic brands to appeal to kids today. Barbie has shed its blonde image and now comes in multiple skin tones and body shapes. Thomas the Tank Engine added more girl characters. And American Girl is now selling a boy doll.

Hasbro said Mr. Potato Head, which has been around for about 70 years, needed a modern makeover.

Of all the diversity changes over the years, I genuinely find this one least irritates me - IF it means that both the classic Mr and Mrs Potatohead costuming comes in the same package.

In that case, you’re basically saving money anyway.

Nah, they’ll have ugly neon shit in the normal package, and you’ll have to pay for extension packs for the other stuff.

I mean you could mix and match your mister and missus potato head parts anyways so it doesn't really matter. It a potato.

there was already a mrs. potatohead (that the article mentions in a way that you might miss) so it wasn't like it was too male-centric, people with a memory of mrs. potatohead might just see the intentions here that making a brand new even better toy that's gender-neutral isn't what's wanted, it's not even completely about pleasing troons or twitter faggots its about agitating normal people who recognize the name from their childhood.
