If your comp can run it, get the PC version. Its a worthwhile game when not shitting itself, like a refined version of Civ V.
I figure I probably will at some point, though I liked the idea of playing Civ or any 4X game while falling asleep, and I had fun with Civ Rev way back on the DS

So, what's wrong with it, exactly?
Larger file sizes (like, say, later in on a game with lots of Civs and a huge map, which lots of people always play on) will result in the game crashing when you try to save it, there's some sort of bug that crashes the game for some people the turn before they are going to win a victory, patches are slow to arrive and aren't done by the actual Firaxis team instead being done by the team who ported the game, expansions come out later too, the Switch takes a long time to calculate other players moves. Not sure if thats true across all versions but historically that was based on the computer doing the AI's number crunching, and the Switch isn't exactly a gaming PC.

Oh yeah, and in non-Switch news. The Nintendo leaks have finally picked up again. We got some DS/3DS stuff, some early Switch (as in really early, as in 2015) documents, and data in regards to Nintendo investigating the hacking community. These assets, seemingly, would not have been put on the iQue servers where the leak originally occurred, with that possibly having been a gateway into NCL (Nintendo of Japan's) internal systems.

Given that they were quiet for two months, and now have had leaks on two consecutive days, it makes you wonder what the rest of this *very special* week will bring.

And apparently Saints Row the Third is a bad port too? That's what I've read, though I can personally attest to Red Faction Guerilla being fine, and that's from the same developer. Weird.
I got Saint Row IV and it is definitely buggy on the Switch. Mostly during the transitions between gameplay and a lot of the intro cinematics. Still fun though but I'm just a little autistic for oldGTA/Saints Row gameplay.

There's a bunch of random stuff about the recent leaks on this guy's Twitter: https://twitter.com/eclipse_tt/

The prototype Switch looks like this, lol:

Anyone have firsthand experience with microSD cards greater than 500GB for the Switch? Mine is about full and I was looking to upgrade. But when I originally bought the one I am currently using my research told me that the Switch was limited to 500GB.

Now I am not so sure that is the case.

Also. Why the fuck isn't XCOM Enemy Within on Switch? It is perfect for the system and orders of magnitude better than XCOM 2.

Good to know, I've seen it for like $15 recently and almost pulled the trigger.

There should be a spreadsheet of bad Switch ports. Throw Payday 2 onto that pile due to the game getting no updates, which ain't right for a game that lives and dies on its updates. It's essentially an incomplete game. And I swear, Mega Man Legacy Collection has some extra input lag that just isn't there on other platforms. Even the 3DS. Legacy Collection 2 seems fine.

I'd be interested in taking a stab at the spreadsheet thing when I get some free time, I have a fair number of switch ports and I am fairly familar with most of the games on other platforms to say if the ports are decent or not.

The most plagued ports I've seen are
  1. Titan Quest, which has just about the shittiest controls for an action RPG on consoles and is a massive unstable bugfest on all consoles.
  2. Bloodstained, which despite some massive patching efforts from the developers I would still consider unplayable jank.
  3. Ark Survival Evolved is just about the worst porting effort of any game to any system, hilariously fucked.
Generally most indie games (especially 2d ones) are a safe bet on the Switch since developers have been incentivized by sales numbers that have matched or exceeded the ones seen on PC to actually give a damn.

Third partys are a mixed bag on the other hand, if your buying anything from the likes of Ubisoft, 2K, THQ Nordic or Capcom Etc I would scrutinize what others are saying about the individual games first.

Some of the best I've seen are
  1. Diablo 3 is a fucking fantastic port, runs at 60 fps pretty consistently no matter what crazy shit is happening onscreen, hundreds of hours of play without issues.
  2. Alien Isolations port is so good it's arguably a better experience then some other platforms. https://youtu.be/u8kvSGUwAyc
  3. Bethesda's ports are pretty consistently great, and usually are a safe bet to go with. I also have heard that the Doom Eternal port is pretty impressive.

So I got a Switch for Christmas, but no games. (unless you count a Mario Kart download that came with it, and I don't because fuck Mario kart.) long story short, I only really want to buy one game for it at the moment, but I'm torn between Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. Which game should I get? (technically, which game should I get *first*? as I'll probably get both eventually.)

Breath of the Wild is the better game by far. Mario Odyssey is a great platformer, but becomes a collect-a-thon slog by the end.

Either one is fine but Zelda lasts longer. So if you want a quick (still 60+ hours if you want all the moons) experience pick Mario, if you want a JRPG-like time sink pick Zelda.

Fuck you, faggot. Play Mario Kart.

Also Zelda is going to last you a very long time, but Mario may offer you a wider range of things to do. Both games are great though. Maybe get Zelda first so you can start working on it and be ready for the sequel which will hopefully be out this coming year.

Alright. I got Breath of the Wild today. I haven't gotten very far into it, but I'm having fun so far. Now I have one more question: Is the DLC worth getting?
