CBS’ slate of reality shows, which include “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and “Love Island,” will become more diverse in 2021.

On Monday, the network introduced an initiative that requires these shows to ensure that 50% of their casts are Black, Indigenous or People of Color, or BIPOC. Additionally, the network has committed to putting at least 25% of its development budget towards creators and producers who are BIPOC.

These reality TV targets will kick off during the 2021-22 broadcast season.

“The reality TV genre is an area that’s especially underrepresented, and needs to be more inclusive across development, casting, production and all phases of storytelling,” George Cheeks, president and CEO for the CBS Entertainment Group, said in a statement.

This initiative follows targets that CBS set for its scripted programs earlier this year as well as a deal to create programming with the NAACP.

CBS has also mandated that its writers’ rooms must be staffed with a minimum of 40% BIPOC representation with the goal of increasing that number to 50% in the 2022-23 season.

Whites are less entertaining on reality tv than other races. The more normal you are the less you belong on reality tv. Druggies, anger issues, being whores, hair trigger tempers and eagerness to fight, being LOUD, that makes good reality tv. Of course blacks and Hispanics are better for the medium.

They made this same basic video twice, about two years apart. In both cases a black person got the money because of course they did. The interesting part is the comments.

In the older video the comments were all piling on the three blacks for instantly race baiting and bullying. Even the black people were upset with the result because of how racialized it was.

In the newer video every single comment is about how much they hate the white man who's wearing a red hat and dressed in what is clearly a rural white guy costume.

I can't say for certain that this is indicative of how american race relations have deteriorated. I wouldn't doubt it, but it could also just as easily be indicative of what superpacs or special interest groups have absolute control over youtube comments now. Make if it what you will.

Disagree. For the same reason that most BDSM clients are old white men. We would never get stuff like Naked and Afraid or Fear Factor without white people. Whites will do the freakiest shit for a high.

Dating shows do tend to be more entertaining with Blacks and Hispanics. (Flavor of Love > Bachelor.)

Everything else you need white people. American whites in particular have this amazing ability to not give a shit about the consequences of their actions when on TV. Call it some of that white privilege if you like. But it's TV magic. Put blacks and spics in the room though and suddenly they become self aware. They can no longer be the fool in the room because that automatically goes to any loud black person that's with them.

The crazy thing about this is that the US is still about ~60% white. If a show is 50% white, whites would actually be below their percentage representation nationally. They're not even pretending that it's about fairness any more. They just hate white people.

It's already the case on some of their shows like STD and Picard. They've added a new rule 2 years ago, they have quotas in front and behind the camera. The new showrunner of Discovery is a proud lesbian. Before the second season of STD they fired the original director of cinematography and announced that the new one was a black man. Jonathan Frakes for example is the only white man allowed to direct an episode of STD and Picard. Robert Duncan McNeill (who worked on Voyager and Enterprise) was initially supposed to direct an episode but the producers told him that they wouldn't hire another white man. Now he works on The Orville.
