If people don't like you as a person but report you for doing something wrong, you can't sit there and say you should get away with it because those people had personal reasons to rat you out. If a thief invading a home stumbles across a man murdering his wife, that doesn't discredit the accusation nor severity of the murder due to it being witnessed by somebody else committing a crime. Because that would be dumb.
