I've always been pretty interested in the Pius Dea era while knowing full well any adaptation of it even before Disney would've been the most heavy handed shit ever. Lucas already had his 'subtle' jabs at Bush and co. in the the Prequels but Disney would probably just turn it into Christian Nation with laser swords.

I've been playing SW Squadrons (the gameplay is actually pretty fun and reminiscent of the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games cept for a few gripes I have) and the story mode is just pathetically laughable. All the main characters are REPRESENTATIONS OF DIVERSITY and the pilot cosmetics are god awful. You have every shade of brown represented but the Rebel white guy pilot looks like some moms basement NEET that has never seen sunshine.
Also, Disney has an outright inability to handle Imperial characters with any sort of nuance. It's extremely juvenile how they hammer smash you in the face with EMPIRE BAD, CHARACTER MOTIVATIONS ONLY MATTER WHEN ITS DEFECTORS OR REBELS. Also, playing the story/tutorial, you will very quickly see that White Males are a minority, almost none in sight except sometimes in the background. It sticks out a LOT.
The good thing is the garbage story is only a glorified tutorial mode, the actual game and game mechanics are fun, they take some tweaking though to get the controls juuuust right. I wish they didn't take out linked fire and linked torpedos, the in-vehicle repair button is fucking retarded and immersion breaking, but the modern day gamer probably couldn't handle a game that punishes you for being shit at it. Overall though I think the game has a lot of potential, especially if they expand it from 5v5 and add in more vehicles.

That sounds like the character creation system from ME:Andromeda at launch. Bioware added a "light" skin tone with the third or fourth patch that made the "white" skin as white as a sheet of paper so your character would look like if (s)he had some kind of disease.

*More info has been released concerning the upcoming ESB: From a Certain Point of View novel which is a sequel to the ANH version, which tumblrfied the film for modern sensibilities and butchered characters beyond recognition, even the gods of SW themselves who now have an Ahsoka fetish, Tarkin being a gay idol, Ackmena being a bitter lesbo and the Dianoga trash monster now being a force priestess who was just trying to give Luke a baptism. The new novel is proving to be even worse so far by those who have seen it. Its a fucking disaster that also confirms many things. Like L3-37 being the Falcon, Lando's queersexual escapade, and worst of all Obi-Wan actually resenting the Skywalkers and hating having to deal with Luke and other characters even being sick of Luke... Yeah... Fuck this. Here's a video coverage on some of the atrocities this book deals with:

Now before I get started on the Death Star/Empire concepts of ROTJ, I want to get a little detail out of the way first.
Here are the Sand Skiff concepts I missed by Jamero and Johnston.
Lore-wise, also of Ubrikkian design and called Bantha-II Sand Skiffs, named after the hardy desert wanderer.
And two lost Jabba guards by McQuarrie.
Also after rewatching chapter 21 of Clone Wars due to some inkling suspicions, it turns out the two unused Kubaz guard designs from ROTJ actually did get brought into lore.
In Genndy Wars and Dark Horse, with the first being a background alien and the other being a guard for Grappa the Hutt.
Looks like he's a Rowdy Roddy Peeper.
As well as the late Ron Cobb's unused fish-eating gorilla alien species from ANH as a thug.
They all went unnamed though, but it goes to show that its likely many of the poor rejects did find their niche somewhere in SW, either in a show's background or in a rare comic. Also while going to youtube to confirm this, I found out that it was the only episode of Clone Wars that Disney blocked for some reason... Anyway the whole city scene is just chock full of obscure classics and unused gems alongside familiar faces.
Anyway on to ROTJ's Death Star/Empire concepts.
Sketches of the DS-2 by Johnston and paintings by Frank Ordaz and Chris Evans.
As you can see here, very little actually changed design-wise between the DS-1 and the DS-2. However, the Death Star II's incomplete areas would actually be in the midsection, making it more symmetrical rather than most of its rear being incomplete.
Below are the concept designs of the film's opening scene by McQuarrie and Johnston along with sketches of the Emperor's iconic shuttle, the Lambda-class T-4a. Vader also had his own private Lambda vessel (which is the one Luke used to escape with Vader), and were mostly used for escorts in lore.
The Emperor's shuttle went through many design phases, most of which would be incorporated into lore in one way or another, such as the triangular design with three wings going on to become the the TIE Phantom from the Rebel Assault games.
The other designs look familiar but nothing's coming to mind right now.
And here we have the concept designs for the Emperor's inner circle, the Ruling Council of the Galaxy along with an early Emperor's Guard sketch, all by Jamero. And a picture of the ruling council up-close, minus one missing member who wasn't pictured. Years later in 2013 a close up picture of the unseen sixth councilman was finally released.
As depicted by Jamero, not all members were going to be human, with some being aliens. This was presumably not carried out due to time constraints. The roles of these figures, who were essentially Palpatine's trusted confidants who helped him run the Empire, would be greatly expanded upon in lore. In total there were hundreds of advisors who helped to run the galactic empire with varying roles, effectively taking the place of the Imperial Senate after it completely dissolved. Out of the hundreds, only six were the Emperor's most trusted and made members of the grand Ruling Council aka the Inner Circle of Palpatine's closest courtiers. Maximum loyalty was assured as they had all been indoctrinated into the Emperor's Dark Side cult, however upon the Emperor's death, those that survived would fight amongst themselves for the throne, further destabilizing the Empire. Only four of the six pictured were ever identified: Janus Greejatus, Sim Aloo, Kren Blista-Vanee and possibly Sate Pestage (a deleted character from ESB), and all met their end above Endor with the exception of Sate. Also despite not being aliens in the finalized product, later sources would depict a minority of the advisors as aliens.

With their first concept being Atha Prime, a new villain based on the unused guard/advisor concept art above.
Atha Prime, was essentially Thrawn before Thrawn and Snoke before Snoke. He was depicted as a master geneticist and tactician who took part in orchestrating the Clone Wars under the control of Sidious. Atha Prime however chose to betray Sidious, due to his own dislike for the Force and its users, resulting in him and his followers being banished to the furthest regions of the galaxy, as they could still prove useful in the future, however with him he had the knowledge to now produce his own clone army in secret. The Kenner plotline would then involve Prime returning to the galaxy upon finding out about the Emperor's demise and seeking to use his new Clone Army (a plotline and design shared with "Snoke" back when he was known as Uber in George's outline for the sequels) and his own "puppet" to unite the now broken Empire, a special clone of a famed republic and imperial figure respected almost as highly as the Emperor, a plotline which would be used for Thrawn years later. His plans though would be challenged by Luke Skywalker. Kenner pleased with Mark's concepts presented them to Lucas and the Lucasfilm staff as "The Epic Continues".
The ideas were liked, as well as the designs, however, George was not keen on "fleshing out" the SW universe at the time, preferring to stick with his fucking Care Bears multimedia knockoff for the next few years, resulting in the SW dark age of the mid-to-late 80s dominated solely by Ewok merch and media... Despite this, years later starting in 1993 (when Zahn's Thrawn trilogy proved there was interest in SW beyond fucking Ewoks-shilling), Lucasfilm would start implying that the events of Kenner's pitch did occur, specifically that a mysterious warlord did come back from the Unknown Regions shortly after ROTJ only to be defeated by Luke. And all the vehicles Kenner designed would be incorporated into the franchise in 1995. Three figures were introduced over the years in different media who were all based on and later affiliated with Atha Prime: Shadowspawn, Blackhole and Cronal, all of whom were revealed to be the same entity under various aliases, being fully fleshed out in a comic at the time. The full connection between Blackhole and Atha Prime as well as Blackhole's backstory would be firmly established by Abel G. Pena, who confirmed that the entity was indeed Atha Prime and a former member of the CIS who went rogue under many aliases in hopes of usurping Darth Sidious one day, and with his own knowledge of cloning, could even produce many versions of himself to carry out his will. Even after Disney nuked the canon, George's outline for the sequels followed a similar pattern to those in Kenner, specifically with main villain Uber, who was then developed into Kylo Ren and Snoke, with a few of their concept art designs bearing resemblance to depictions of Prime, Blackhole, etc (pictured below), as well as in Snoke's initial backstory of being a mysterious individual with connections to Palpatine who was banished to the Unknown Regions as well. Below are pictures of Blackhole, Shadowspawn, followed by concept art of Uber/Jedi Killer/Kylo Ren as he slowly devolves from Blackhole, into Dark Helmet and then into a Vader Knockoff and finally into Emo Ren the Revan knockoff.
Also much like Snoke, Cronal/Prime also became a bald freakshow that became more and more mutilated as time went on. And on a final note, Prime's original design would later be used in the Dark Empire comics as part of the revived Emperor's new guards on Byss, the Imperial Sentinels, mutants who were twice the size of the average human.
Now back to ROTJ.

Early scout trooper and speeder bike designs by McQuarrie and Jamero. And the finalized blueprints by Gavin Bocquet and Norman Reynolds.
As you can see above, the scout trooper armor was originally going to have more details and look grittier overall, even possessing a unique red insignia and the option to lift up the mask, however these elements were simplified due to costs and time constraints. They also went by the name of Biker Scouts and lore established them as mainly light infantry trained in reconnaissance and managing complex vehicles.
Here though we have the earliest concepts for the scouts on Endor by McQuarrie. These designs would go unused but would inspire the designs for the Emperor's Royal Guards.
They even sported Ewok hides on their arms as decorative trophies. Despite not making it into the film, their designs would later be incorporated into lore as the Taloron Hunters mercenary group who operated after the Battle of Endor.
As for the Speeder Bike itself, at one point in production as far back as 1980, they toyed with the idea of giving Luke his very own red speeder bike that resembled more of a traditional motorcycle in some areas. However this custom unit was dropped. The standard speeder bike went through many redesigns, with some being black or white with blue marks (and a #12 mark) to make it match the trooper armors, however this was changed to the brown coloring. At one point, scout troopers were also going to have a green coloration to make them better blend in with the surrounding and their speeders, making them resemble the standard low-ranking imperial soldier. In lore, the speeder bike's model was identified as an Aratech 74-Z. The unused speeders would be slowly incorporated over the years in one way or another, but mostly in SWTOR.
The bikes at one point were also designed as comfortable hover chairs by Johnston. George however asked that they be made to look like motorcycles, thus giving birth to the speeder bike designs. Despite this, these designs would also be incorporated into lore, mostly through SWTOR with some modifications. It was hard to come up with an exact design as George wasn't very descriptive, and he barely gave much details to the artists on how the speeder bike chase would play out.
And here we have the Endor Imperial landing platform and shield bunker with the Death Star overhead as depicted by Johnston.

In lore, it was the construction of the shield generator which led to the usually peaceful Ewoks' hostility towards aliens, with construction beginning about two years before ROTJ.
With Ewok villages being destroyed, their sacred trees cleared out in droves down to the roots, and all attempts at trying to appease the empire with fruits and gifts resulting in dead ewoks. The anger and sadness caused by this led to the kindly Ewok shaman Logray's fall to the dark side, who began a new path for the ewoks, to kill the invaders by any means and use their bodies in occult rituals.
And now we have the Emperor's throne room itself by Johnston and McQuarrie.
Little change was made, and the throne remained consistent in its design, with the exception of a lift design which was deemed too impractical. The Emperor would've also had a small SPD droid to act as a maid of sorts.

With Ewok villages being destroyed, their sacred trees cleared out in droves down to the roots, and all attempts at trying to appease the empire with fruits and gifts resulting in dead ewoks. The anger and sadness caused by this led to the kindly Ewok shaman Logray's fall to the dark side, who began a new path for the ewoks, to kill the invaders by any means and use their bodies in occult rituals.
And now we have the Emperor's throne room itself by Johnston and McQuarrie.
Little change was made, and the throne remained consistent in its design, with the exception of a lift design which was deemed too impractical. The Emperor would've also had a small SPD droid to act as a maid of sorts.

Originally he was going to be an alien and one of the Emperor's councilmen.

They have a catholic swiss guard vibe. I wonder if the people at Lucasfilm at the time thought that the Emperor was a religious figure as well as a political one?Here though we have the earliest concepts for the scouts on Endor by McQuarrie. These designs would go unused but would inspire the designs for the Emperor's Royal Guards.

Disgusting of course, but not shocked in the least. Is the one one white male character "dumb" or buffonish?
Imagine if they spent the time making a game where you could customize the paint scheme and markings on your fighter, customize your helmet or R2 unit. One of the neat things the original X-Wing game did was show your damaged fighter landing with the amount of damage being a result of the ships condition at the end of the mission, that was neat and could really be depicted well now. Im glad all shades of brown was more important.

It makes you wonder if there's a deliberate attempt to destroy Star Wars on their part. You wouldn't think that since Disney's greed is infamous, but just watching what they've done to the franchise...
