These countries are going through these drastic changes all the time, they definitely won't be the same United States or People's Republic of China. The US will loose it's dominate global superpower status in a decades time and China will probably start annexing and gobbling up some of the smaller defenceless south-east asian countries, building more bases in the Spralty Islands and buying other entire countries entire infrastructure that can't pay off the belt and road debt, whilst the US is goes through huge civil turmoil, meanwhile Russia sits back and laughs and probably annexes half of Ukraine this time and occupies Georgia fully so it can exert more influence in the middle east. I feel like people underestimate how badly boomers fucked the world by being lazy and greedy. But considering that 2016 was a huge turning point in culture both in North America and worldwide, the increased fears regarding the the political and ecological climates, outer space and the hazards it brings, and people literally killing each other for having different opinions; and the fact that 2020's proven to be consistent with all the bullshit it's given us both serious and outlandish. There is definitely an argument to be made that the 2020s are only going to go downhill from here. Hell, assuming we even survive that long with all these talks about asteroids, solar cycles and climate change making natural disasters worse than ever before, I don't see things improving until at least the early 2030s unless something big happens that changes everything that gets people to realize "Man, everything we've done these last few years were a mistake" and move on.

Have you ever stopped and realized just how fucked up humanity is? Our depravity deepens with our advancement and its disgusting. Humanity has a way of ruining everything. We are capable of so much good, but with every good thing we achieve we sink deeper into depravity.

We deserve 2020 and far more.

I know we suck and all, but I don't buy into misanthropy. I just hate the idea of damning all of humanity including the those who don't particularly deserve it. My benchmark for the outlook of this decade will lie on both the election (obviously), and next spring's tax season. That will be the penultimate deciding point on if we're doomed to be trapped in "new normal" clown world forever. If it doesn't stop, or show serious signs of stopping by then, we are fucked, no ifs ands or butts about it.

What I find really weird about comments like these is that they assume that social change will just stop abruptly. If you're a doomer and think society will slide into total Yemen-level collapse, that isn't the same as now; we won't be sitting around posting on Kiwi Farms if there's a second civil war raging around us, we'll be fighting for survival. Conversely if all this blows over and the economy recovers it won't be like now either. I'm not really taking the optimist or pessimist side here but society just stalling in 2020 for centuries is literally impossible.

The United States does not necessarily equate the Republic... A lot of people like to compare the US to the Roman Empire but the US is more like the Roman Republic before their civil wars and Caesar.

China is also starting to feel the effects of the one child policy. The number of workers they’re losing is significantly increasing every year, as well as the number of people who can’t serve in the military. Also, due to the one child policy and their cultural norms, with the death of every Chinese soldier, 2 parents and 4 grandparents lose their retirement/investment. They’re not Maos China that can suffer significant loses and it won’t affect them. They’ve peaked, they just haven’t fully realized it yet. Also, India will be knocking on China’s doorstep. They can bounce back eventually but not within the next few decades.

Russia though could very well profit from a weakened, more authoritarian, and/or disinterested United States and ‘reclaim’ a lot of land lost when the USSR broke up.

Very rarely do politics seem to completely change the landscape nowadays. The Obama era felt like Bush, and Trump feels like Obama in terms of everyday life. Policy may change, but our routines and interactions more than likely will not. It is good to keep tabs though and try to fight for something better.

Social Media really is a curse. While I like forums for their more open discussions, the constant move towards platforms like Twitter or FaceBook feels like a detriment. Those places value quick, not thought through responses that just end up escalating things. In some ways, I can see humans starting to leave the internet more because of such. The web was not designed to house everybody, in my opinion, and now we are seeing the consequences of multiple generations given platforms to the whole world in seconds. 2020 just needs to usher out tech, as boomerish as that sounds. Make the internet more of a small thing once again, you know?

I actually believe that the 2020s on up to the 2030s are going to be way worse. We are in for a lot of strife globally, but most people don't really realize it yet. And it isn't the left or the right or Trump that is going to cause all of it. Those are just symptoms. I found this video to be pretty insightful:

seems pretty evident when you look at the big picture. I don't think we will live in some Mad Max world in the near future, but I don't think things are going to be as prosperous and peaceful on average as they were for the past few decades. As for something like all the culture wars in America over pop culture and the like, I kinda feel like things are going to swing in the other direction fairly soon.
