They already did that in the animated show guys, and look one of them is already black. It's perfect.

These people are unbelievably stupid. They already have a bad track record as is with rebooting/remaking older cartoon series. Now they want to make live-action versions of them. Why? Is that really what kids want?

Chemical X?

No, Cherry Cola!

But really, a live action version of this, especially after the Cuties fiasco????

What are they thinking!?

To the CW's slight credit, it's explicitly set after the original show with the girls as adults in their late twenties/early thirties. It's still going to be god-awful.

not to sound like a fag but aren't we tired of this whole "subversion" bullshit? you would think the MCU playing things straight for the most part would lead to more media being rather earniest with just a hint of snark. with how many people are stuck in arrested development nowadays wouldn't a tv series that just followed the same plots that were used in the original be considered great?

no disillusionment just more of the same Jay Ward-esque comedy of the original. Basically like a tv version of the George in the Jungle film.

Amen to that.

I'd even go one step further, I think more genre media should not only be played straight but the story and aesthetics should also be sincere with no "irony" or Whedon-style snark.

No snark, no irony, no didactic "everything is political" garbage, and no pretentiousness.

Disregarding the premise that will obviously be wrecked during production, just how in the fuck do they plan to actually realize the girls in live-action? Will it be with creepy as fuck prosthetics? Or will they go the route of Alita: Battle Angel and use CGI instead?

More importantly, what about the villains, how do they plan on translating them into live action? Or will we just get some original villains that won't hold a candle to the likes of Mojo Jojo or Him, but are here because the budget allows for it?

They'll probably just have them look normal but wear color-coded outfits and haircuts so you know who's who. At most, they'll have color contact lenses for the eyes.

Some day, they're going to do a woke reboot of Ed Edd & Eddy, and it will be so utterly abominable that it kills the entire trend.

Sad, but true.

Worst part is that a live-action reboot of Ed, Edd, and Eddy could actually be pretty funny if you went with the "twenty years later" route if you made it as a goofy slightly dark comedy in the vein of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia or Trailer Park Boys.

Please no. The movie was a fitting ending to that series (Eddy becomes the cool guy because his brother decided to be a dick so everyone felt bad for him)

I can already tell they would shoehorn the Eds having relationships with the Cankers if they did a "woke" version, or make one of the Cankers dyke and go after Nazz

EDIT: Wait, I just thought of something else for "wokeness"... Rule 63 for both the Eds and Cankers.
Female Ed Names: Eda, Edda. & Edana
Male Cankers: Lee (he would be asian), Marty, and Mat
And instead of the Eds being scared wimps to the Cankers, they stand up to them and even beat the shit out of them because "GURL POWA!!!"

It did help finally show a big part of why Eddy is the way he is.

I miss sincerity and earnestness in western media. It's not completely gone or anything, and hell I don't even have any particular love or hate for Whedon's stuff on it's own, but the media landscape sometimes feels like a competition to get out the most low quality high anger snark and irony based thing while desperately trying to prove they don't actually care or are "above" the thing being depicted. But the thing also has a serious sociopolitical message and you're a monster if you don't agree and laugh at their notjokes. The intensity of each aspect varies but you see this sort of thing a lot. Nothing can just "be" anymore.

A bit of snark and some self awareness here and there can add to a show, give it a little bite, but it's like salt in that way. Salt on potatoes is great. A bowl of ketchup with an entire shaker of salt mixed in that has a single french fry floating in the middle is not as great.

Look on the bright side, maybe this will lead to a reprint of the original cartoon's dvd set? It's out of print and absurdly expensive now.
