AWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A Trolls doll is being pulled off store shelves amid complaints it promotes child abuse.

Toymaker Hasbro said Wednesday that it’s in the process of removing the “Trolls World Tour Giggle and Sing Poppy” from the market and will be offering customers a replacement doll of the popular female character.

The doll had been designed to giggle when placed in a sitting position, but some parents complain the sound activation button is inappropriately placed under the doll’s skirt and between her legs.

An online petition suggests the doll is “conditioning our children to think pedophilia is OK.”

“This is not okay for a child’s toy! This toy needs to be removed from our stores,” the petition by Jessica McManis reads in part. “What will this toy make our innocent, impressionable children think? That it’s fun when someone touches your private area?”

The petition is addressed to major retailers including Target, Walmart and Amazon.

Hasbro spokeswoman Julie Duffy told The Providence Journal that the Rhode Island-based company recognizes the sensor’s placement “may be perceived as inappropriate.”

“This was not intentional and we are happy to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value through our consumer care team,” she told the newspaper. “We are in the process of removing the item for purchase.”

Hasbro is the maker of Transformers, G.I. Joe, Monopoly and other beloved children’s toys and games.

First, people complained about PAW Patrol because it features a cop dog. Now another popular thing for kids is under fire...due to the placement of a button on one of its' toys.

I'm thinking more oblivious designer than malicious pedo, but still goddamn if that isn't a stupid design choice. Even ignoring the pearl clutching, did no one on the design team stop and think that a button on the doll's back, like has been done a thousand times before, would be easier for the target audience to activate than one on its taint??

I assume the button is supposed to be activated when you put the doll on the ground in the sitting position. The video shows the ability to pose the doll's legs that way and has it misfire a bunch of times.

It's the outline of the button that's freaking parents out. If it was integrated into the doll no one would care.

It's not like inappropriate kids toy designs have made to the market before.

It's a creepy design, but the only way I could imagine it was intentional was by some seriously disgruntled employee. NOT a pedo.

And it DEFINITELY wouldn't be the first time something like this happened.
#56 is actually intentional. In Crayon Shin-Chan (the show it's from), the character does a dance called the "Mr. Elephant Dance" at times.

And here's some other fails that weren't on there:

You know, I saw the title and was about to say "yeah if my kid looked like a Troll doll I'd probably beat the hell out of them too" and then I read the article and :story:

HOW DID THAT DESIGN CLEAR THE BOARDROOM

OH MY FUCKING GOD

I'm assuming Japan was involved

Somebody needs to team that doll up with Hasbro's Cockrocket Punisher.

This thread is now "How did THIS get pass corporate?!" Toys edition.

I always knew there was something spiritually wicked about this franchise in general. I mean those trolls basically look like little demons that have been "cutified" so that they look "innocent and fun" and thus marketable to little kids. I wish I could say that this article surprises and shocks me, but considering the times we're living in now, it really doesn't surprise me at all.

I'd be suspicious of a parent saying this is "normalizing pedophilia" when that statement implies that their children would already have an inkling of spreading their legs in front of adults... Glad to see even in 2020 moral guardian hysteria is still up and running honestly, what with the likes of Jazz and Desmond running around.

People are more incensed about a toy with a button on its ass than actual child abuse. So I really think it's projection or diversionary. If they cared about children, they'd be talking about actual children, the ones being abused like.... right fucking now. But seemingly the media is constantly interested with drawings and toys. They don't want to deal with actual real life issues, because that raises uncomfortable issues that would likely affect people with money and power.

A video of this demonstration is linked here. I don't know how to embed Instagram videos.

That IS kinda creepy.

Also, look at that same lady's Instagram. redpillbaby, and a Q supporter. This writes itself.

This was a very bad design decision and I have no idea how this got ok'd. The giggle sounds are pretty creepy. It sounds more like she is gasping. I don't really think this was done to groom kids. But the pedo vibes are there and you can't discount that some pedo won't use this doll to groom kids.

That said, this woman's desk is filthy. There's a very visible crumb under the feet of the doll. I bet her house is a sty because "lol busy mom".

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of the title, but after seeing the video I can definitely see why they pulled it.

That shit is creepy af and completely inappropriate. I think some users are underestimating just how popular Trolls is with kids these days and I have absolutely no doubt some sick fuck would try to use this groom children with.
