Some small towns have fucke up court room and jail/holding areas. A prison won't look too different than what people expect because it's a fucking prison. But I've seen jails that are made from old schools or houses because the small town couldn't afford to completely make a new one. I've also seen court houses made from literal houses....

As it is, nothing about Nates situation has raised a red flag, everything seems normal so far. I'd wager he gets a public defender within the month with his preliminary hearings and such soon after.

Unlike Chris and Barb, Nate (I hope) will be smart enough to realize he's fucked and a plea bargain is the best he's gonna get. If that happens, this whole trial stuff won't last long at all.

It's possible Google has hilariously misdirected me but it says he's being held in the Lancaster County Jail, which I believe is this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancaster_County_Prison

Looks bigger and better than the 150 year-old county jailhouse in my county. From what I hear, it's falling apart, overcrowded to the point that they actually have to rent out cells in other counties, is easy to slip contraband into and is right in the middle of the downtown area of the small city that serves as our county seat. PA über alles, indeed.

I want to say that Nick can expect 15 to 40 years after a plea bargain.

Because this is Nick, he will serve the full 40.

I could honestly go two ways on whether or not Nick would be a problem inmate or not. On one hand, he is very cowardly and conflict avoidant, so he's likely to meekly do what he's told without any backchat or resistance. On the other hand, he is incredibly paranoid, which means he is likely to freak out over extremely minor things (let alone the things he should actually be worried about).

I think I speak for several people when I say "What will happen to the cat?"
I kind of assume it'll be taken in by the aunt or taken to a shelter to be adopted.

Just take pleasure in knowing that he can't play Pokemon, Digimon, and can't listen to They Might Be Giants. He can't even smell cats platonically while in there. Everything he enjoys in life has been taken from him.

That's got to be hell for him, and I am glad about that.

Will Nick's aunt Joyce or B-Mum face charges for assisting him/covering up his crimes for so long?

I hope the aunt, then, piece of shit that she is. I don't know how big PA is on kill shelters, and given Nick's neglect that's caused Shyer to avoid his litter box, that downs his chances of a solid adoption. :/

Hi I'm Jessa. Rather than have you guys find me I'll just tell you everything here because this is stupid

I have known Nick since the summer of 2007. I spoke to him on and off, and Anna is right in her assumption that it started as a way to "fix" him. But somewhere in the middle of my friendship with Anna, I realized just how bad it was. ( Anna: I think it was 2010 when I compiled Nick's tweets for your mother to give to your lawyer and ultimately got him banned from your school premises? And I think California, temporarily? Your mom wasn't clear )
Around 2012-2013, I did continue talking to him. I was not his friend. I have never considered myself his friend. I sure as hell never considered myself his "Mommy". That shit creeped me the fuck out. But I had to find out as much as I could so that I could get enough evidence to get him in jail. Clearly that didn't work as soon as I had hoped. But during the entire time I was speaking to him, I was compiling evidence and at one point I was even in contact with his psychologist, but she said that unfortunately there wasn't enough to bring him in to custody. I did not want him to hurt anybody or continue to hurt anybody. I think in the first major thread about him somebody managed to privately chat with him and he mentioned that I've had similar experiences as a kid? He is a disgusting person and even he knows I'm against that shit, because any time he brought it up in conversation I shot him down and told him it was not tolerated with me.

I never spoke to his aunt but I know that she really tried to give him the best life she could. His aunt is the one who brought him to group therapy and helped him get his diagnoses. In his official diagnosis paper his psychologist wrote that his mother doesn't "believe" in psychology, so he was sort of just left to... become Nick. His mother is all kinds of fucked up, I'm sure. I don't know a lot about his real dad except that Nick used to see him on weekends and he wanted nothing to do with Nick. Neither of his parents seemed to.
Thanks for the info, Jessa. (Sorry for being so cruel to you earlier.)

I think the getting-him-barred-from-my-school thing was closer to 2009? I left the school in question after 10th grade, so that was in 2009. I think. Brain is a bit fried so I might be fucking up the math here. Graduated from high school in 2011, so I think the second half of 10th grade would've been 2009.

The California thing was essentially that the DA would have grounds to open a stalking case if he made any indication that he was coming out here. Not technically a ban from being in the state, but yeah.

Also, I'm guessing it was a chat log where Nick began talking about pedo shit. Could be wrong.

It seems there's quite a few
http://www.nokillnetwork.org/d/Pennsylvania
I don't know how many kill shelters there are though, also I'm not sure if No kill shelters charge higher prices for surrendering an animal vs. kill shelters, given that his aunt seems to not give a shit about most things, I think she'd take the cheaper option regardless of what would be better for the cat. Maybe she'll give the cat away free on craigslist and he'll be picked up by a rescue or a caring owner ready to deal with his issues.

If Amber's dad is pressing charges against them too, then it's possible. There's certainly enough evidence out there to prove it.

I think Nick's mom might be in trouble, but I doubt they could pin anything on his aunt since she wasn't Amber's legal caregiver. Sure she enabled him and shielded him, but unless she actively interfered in the investigation into Nick, they really don't have anything to charge her with unless she counts as a mandated reporter under PA law. Nick's mom most certainly does qualify as a mandated reporter, so they might be able to hit her with a failure to report charge. It just depends on the law. However, I would not be surprised if Amber's dad divorces her mom over this, and petitions for full custody if what we suspect is true. I think it would be quite hard to forgive someone for shielding your daughter's abuser from justice.

I believe they are already divorced, Amber is pedonick's half sister.

Jessa, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but are you familiar at all with Thom/Heather's involvement and what's been said about them?

And as an aside, I'm skeptical of Nick's diagnoses of schizotypal disorder (atleast that alone)- I'm not that familiar with it, but my impression is that, while rarer than even schizophrenia, it's less severe and seems to manifest as a higher-functioning form. I have myself known of one diagnosed schizotypal online (and that was the first time I'd ever heard of it), have seen their activities/behaviors and even briefly interacted with them, and while they were certainly strange, not very bright, degenerate, dysfunctional, and basically nuts, they were really pretty benign on the crazy scale, and honestly pitiable.* And they of course were nowhere near as bad as Nick, they certainly weren't at all dangerous or within miles as disgusting as he is. They seemed to fit the bill of that alone far, far more than Nick. I don't doubt Nick has schizoid traits, but he specifically seems to have a constellation of traits/disorders, and more than anything seems like some kind of unique psychopath.

Basically, schizotypal disorder can't begin to explain how incomparably fucked up he is.

And if anyone hasn't seen this tweet (which is one of my favorites), he himself isn't too sure:

*Jessa mentioning how Nick was desperate for his parents to help him, I kind of hate to say, almost makes me pity him somewhat. There's no way you could ever fix someone like him, but it does raise the distinct possibility he might not have ended up this badly, and that he is, on some level, remorseful for what he's been.

I think Nick's family probably have some kind of genetic disposition towards horrible teeth. He's too young to have got his mouth there just through poor brushing. (Although his lack of hygiene certainly can't be helping)

Nick's dental health illustrates the probable combination of bad genes and bad upbringing that have made him such an exceptional fellow--his rotten mouth reflects a rotten spirit.
