It differs quite a bit by region and specific churches often have different ideas and orders which is usually determined by the bishop of the church. I'm only really familiar with Ohio Amish because I've lived around them all of my life, and from what I understand they're very similar to the Amish in Pennsylvania but other groups have moved out west because they felt differently about things than the community they left. In my area there's Mennonites which are basically Amish light and mostly dress like the 'English' people, then you've got New Order Amish who are hardcore about some things but lax on others. Old Order Amish [usually Schwarzentrubers] are really hardcore about it.
Mennonites are basically just like anyone else but really church-going obviously and they dress kinda funny but generally they're just English who are heavy as fuck on church. They have electricity, drive cars and basically do everything the same way we do. New Order Amish usually don't have electricity, they don't drive [but they hire English people to drive them around], they can use power tools and the whole nine. Some of the New Order guys I know have phone booths at the end of the driveway because anything hooked to a power line has to be kept a certain distance from their home or the bishop will complain. Hell, one guy I worked with that was New Order had a little tube TV and radio hooked up in his barn and he'd have his neighbors over to watch baseball every night. Old Order are usually poorer Amish and they live WAY back in the sticks, can't even have gravel on their driveways, the women don't talk to English men and neither do the kids, no power tools, no electricity, they can't ride in cars at all and they're not even allowed to have lights or hazard signs on their buggies. They also can't have zippers on any piece of their clothing. I did a lot of delivery work for the New Order families, you'd never meet nicer people generally. Old Order people were always pretty weird and they tend to stay isolated.
